Emmiganur is located at 15.7333° N 77.4833° E.[1] It has an average elevation of 386 meters (1269 feet).

As of 2001 India census,[2] Yemmiganur had a population of 76,428. Males constitute 51% of the population and females 49%. Yemmiganur has an average literacy rate of 50%, lower than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 61%, and female literacy is 39%. In Yemmiganur, 14% of the population is under 6 years of age.

As of 2008, one can find much development in Yemmiganur mainly in the fields of education and employment.


Yemmiganur is famous for its weavers. A residential colony is exclusively reserved for them. The land for the colony was arranged by Padmashri Machani Somappa. Neelakanteshwara Swamy Rathothsava is a big car festival of Yemmiganur which is celebrated in every January.

Now Yemmiganur is a well developed town with an Engineering college SJCET (St John's College of Engineering and Technology) which has good faculty and equipment.
