The Yehat are a fictional race of beings featured in the science fiction Star Control computer game series. They speak with a notable Scottish accent when their language is translated to English.
The Yehat are fearsome and honorable pterodactyl-like creatures who were allied with the Alliance of Free Stars (the protagonists) in Star Control I.
In Star Control II, they had become Ur-Quan battle thralls, but once the player brings them evidence that their adopted children, the Shofixti, are still alive, they will ally with the humans once again (after undergoing a civil war).
The Pkunk are an offshoot of the Yehat race.
Yehat life is governed by one Queen, who rules over the various Yehat Clans. Historically, this has been one from the Veep-Neep Clan, but at the end of Star Control II a Pkunk Queen was chosen.
[edit] Yehat Terminator
Their main combat vessel, the infamous Yehat "Terminator" class, is a fearsome warship. Undoubtedly conceptualized and designed with space superiority in mind, its design is in the form of a crescent and it is usually painted in blue hues. Its main armament consists of a pair of rapid fire pulse cannons located in each of the crescent's tips and its main defense comes in the form of an almost impenetrable high energy force shield. The shield however, can only be activated for a few seconds before needing at least a half full energy bank. The only munitions in the Star Control universe known to be able to bypass this shield are the VUX Intruder's 'limpet' parasites. The Terminator's handling characteristics and combat capabilities are nothing short of amazing: its turning rate is superb, its maximum velocity is very good and although accelerating to top sublight speed requires some time, it is not considered a serious tactical hindrance by its pilots. Its crew complement is usually sufficient to withstand more than one engagement against an equal or even more powerful foe. Finally, the capacity of the Terminator's energy banks coupled with their quick-charging dynamos provide the possibility of firing a full barrage of shots from its pulse cannons every few seconds, almost ensuring a hit every time. If the full discharge lands on a single target the results are quite devastating to the enemy vessel. In the original Alliance of Free Stars, the group of races who opposed the oppression of the Ur-Quan and their battle thralls, the Terminator was second in cost only to the top weapon in the Alliance's arsenal, The Chenjesu's "Broodhome" class (a cost of 23 vs 28 credits, respectively). However, the Terminator usually proved to be superior in combat, thus reflecting its combat minded design.
Mycon Podships are particularly vulnerable to the Terminator, since the Terminator's shields render it proof against the Podship's plasmoids and the Terminator's maneuverability can be used to lead plasmoids back to the Podship that launched them, inflicting massive damage to the Podship. Moreover, the Podship is too slow to outrun the Terminator and its guns. Against the Spathi Eluder, however, the Terminator can usually only hope for a draw since the Terminator simply cannot expect to match the Eluder's exceptional speed, nor can the Eluder's homing B.U.T.T torpedoes and main forward gun penetrate the Terminator's shields. It is also one of the few ships that can penetrate the Chmmr Avatar's point defense, as its pulse cannons fire too many shots for the Avatar's satellites to intercept. The Terminator is vulnerable when facing the Ur-Quan Dreadnought, as its shield cannot provide constant protection from the swarms of fighter drones. Against the Kohr-Ah Marauder, the shields can protect against both the homing mines and the F.R.I.E.D. and allow the Terminator to close in and blast away at the Marauder with near-impunity.
