Ye Olde Cock Tavern
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Ye Olde Cock Tavern is a public house on London's Fleet Street.
Originally built before the 17th Century, it was rebuilt, including the interior (which is thought to include work by carver Grinling Gibbons)[1], on the other side of the road in the 1880's when a branch of the Bank of England was built where it stood[2][1]. Tragically, however, in the 1990, a fire broke out and destroyed many of the original ornaments, and has since gone through a restoration using photographs[1].
It has been frequented by Samuel Pepys, Alfred Tennyson and Charles Dickens[3].
