Yavac

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Yavac is a computer controlled tank in the fictional universe of the Concordiat described in Keith Laumer's Bolo series of books. They are the primary adversary to the middle era Bolo tanks (Mark XVIII to the Mark XXIII), and are described as walking on eight legs. They are deployed by the Deng race.

[edit] Size

The Yavac walking tanks range in size from automobile sized light scouts to many-thousand ton heavy assault vehicles.

[edit] Models

Class C Scout
The Class C is a lightweight, primarily anti-infantry attack vehicle. Equipped with mortar grenades and an energy cannon of some sort, this vehicle is described as being very maneuverable and able to traverse uneven landscape with ease.

Class 1 Heavy
An anti-tank vehicle, the Yavac Heavy's weight is unspecified, but suggested to be in the many hundreds, if not thousands, of tons. Armed with a range of weapons from anti-personnel to anti-aircraft, the primary offensive weapon is a large energy weapon similar in effectiveness to the Hellbore cannons used by the Bolo tanks. Depending on the model of Bolo being engaged, the Yavac Heavies are usually not able to fight in parity with a Bolo XX or later tank. Common ratios described are three Yavac Heavies per similar generation Bolo, and they are described as fighting as a coordinated group to take out the human built tanks.
