Yatri
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Yatri, Kathryn Taussig, is the world’s foremost Glass Armonica musician in the genre of New Age and healing music. Her CDs are distributed in 35 countries around the world and she has been featured on such nationally syndicated radio shows as Music From the Hearts of Space and Echoes. The Glass Armonica is an instrument made of quartz crystal bowls rotating on a spindle and played with moist fingers. It was invented by Benjamin Franklin in the 18th century and recreated for Yatri by the late Gerhard Finkenbeiner, a master glass blower in Waltham Massachusetts from Franklin’s original sketches.
Before discovering the Glass Armonica Yatri, then known as Kathryn Root, was a prominent Canadian concert pianist who toured internationally as soloist and with the chamber group Camerata. Since 1988 she has performed exclusively on the Glass Armonica writing music for theater, dance, and film. She lives in the US with her husband pianist Peter Elyakim Taussig
