[edit] Chelsea F.C.

Hi. I notice you keep altering the Chelsea F.C. squad list to show Michael Ballack and not William Gallas as having the number 13 shirt. Can you provide a source for this or wait until it is officially confirmed? Cheers. SteveO 16:10, 31 July 2006 (UTC)

SEE THIS http://home.skysports.com/list.asp?hlid=387368&plid=4113&clid=8&cpid=8

According to the club's official site, Gallas still has it. SteveO 16:30, 31 July 2006 (UTC)

Could not have been updated as Andriy Shevchenko and Salomon Kalou have not been given numbers either. --y8c 16:35, 31 July 2006 (UTC)

Even so, that Sky article is almost three months old. Imo it's best to wait for official comfirmation from the club. SteveO 17:13, 31 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Deletion

A tag has been placed on Billy Thompson (coach), requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable, that is, why an article about that subject should be included in Wikipedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert notability may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, and if you can indicate why the subject of this article is notable, you may contest the tagging. To do this, add {{hangon}} on the top of the page and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm its subject's notability under the guidelines.

[edit] Continued addition

Please do not add inappropriate external links to Wikipedia, as you did to Chris Smith (footballer born 1988). Wikipedia is not a mere directory of links, nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. Inappropriate links include (but are not limited to) links to personal web sites, links to web sites with which you are affiliated, and links that attract visitors to a web site or promote a product. See the external links guideline and spam policy for further explanations. Since Wikipedia uses nofollow tags, external links do not alter search engine rankings. If you feel the link should be added to the article, then please discuss it on the article's talk page before reinserting it. See the welcome page to learn more about Wikipedia. Thank you. Nice work on the P/W/D/L/% stats. I have this book which might be of some assistance, and I'd also point you in the direction of this if you don't have it already (I'm reliably informed it will be updated some time soon to include manager statistics as it is now maintained by the people at this website whcih may also have some useful information). [edit] Hello

I see you're a soccer enthusiast. That is good. I have had to revert your edits made to Dado Pršo along the grounds of you having removed his country of birth (Yugoslavia). Please confine your edits to the technical side of the article, such as the player or his game, rather than interfere with personal details. From an external angle, particularly among long established Wikipedians, the removal of a country of birth is vandalism and in the case of Dado Pršo, doubly so as some anons have logged in for no other reason these past six weeks. Apart from that, no other problems. Thanks. Evlekis 17:34, 28 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Your request for adminship

Hi Yatesy1988, I'm sorry to inform you that I've closed your request for adminship early because it was unlikely to succeed. For users to be granted admin status, they have to show that they are trusted members of the community. Individual editors each have their own standards for adminship candidates, but here are a few tips that may help you pass the next time round:

  • Wait a bit longer before your next request. Many Wikipedians think that the length of time that users should be active on the project to get a firm grasp of all the policies and guidelines is roughly 3 months.
  • Try to make some more edits. Administrators need to show they have a thorough understanding of policy, so it would be a good idea for you to contribute in wikipedia space, article space and talk space to show you can communicate with others.

You may wish to take a look at the admin coaching program, which would allow you to have your own coach who could personally direct you along the right path, or consider an editor review, allowing other users to comment on your edits and give you ways to improve. The guide to requests for adminship provides further considerations to make before applying again. Let me thank you for your contributions so far, and if you follow the above advice, there is no reason why you can not have a successful RfA in the future. Daniel 15:05, 9 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] List of Leeds United A.F.C. players

I have put a comment on the talk pages of both Leeds United A.F.C. players and List of Leeds United A.F.C. players stating basically the following:

I feel it would be better to replace the full list at the bottom of Leeds United A.F.C. players with the contents of List of Leeds United A.F.C. players, and people can use Category:Leeds United A.F.C. players to view a list of all players whom have made a professional appearance for the club.

The work you have done is very good on this list and I will try and expand it when I get time. Would you agree with my proposal? ChappyTC 13:18, 19 November 2007 (UTC)

Yes i think that would be a good idea by having a list of all players to have made first team appearances for Leeds United, the number of games played in and goals scored for the club (if any). However there should also be a seperate list of players whom are notable for there service to the club (100 plus appearances etc.), like many other of the major English football clubs wikipedia articles (see here). y8c (talk) 13:55, 19 November 2007 (UTC)
I'm not sure my point came across properly. I meant delete everything (i.e. all the players names) in the Leeds_United_A.F.C._players#Players section and move everything you've added to List of Leeds United A.F.C. players to this section. If people required a list of all the players on wikipedia whom have made appearances for Leeds then they could look at Category:Leeds United A.F.C. players. ChappyTC 20:21, 19 November 2007 (UTC)
Would it not be better just to leave all the information in List of Leeds United A.F.C. players there since the page does follow the standard format for wikipedia articles. The list is actually a list of notable players not just of all players.y8c (talk) 20:32, 19 November 2007 (UTC)
I just think it would be better to have all of the colaborative information on Leeds players in one place. Obviously you could re-name the section header something like Notable Players as it's not the same as the content which exists there currently. ChappyTC 12:10, 20 November 2007 (UTC)

I've been through the history section on leedsfans.org and added all players whom had made over 100 appearances for the club and were not already in the list. Do you think the expand list template should now be removed? ChappyTC 23:14, 1 January 2008 (UTC)

if all players that have made 100 plus appearances are now included then i would say the article is complete. Maybe though if the founding players (if any) wee to be added it would definetly complete the page SWY (talk) 01:46, 7 January 2008 (UTC)
I was actually thinking that the remainder of the players in this picture should be added to the list, although maybe all of the 1968-69, 1973-74 and 1991-92 championship winning sides should be included aswell? I w9ould think at-least the 68-69 squad as they were the first to win the championship for leeds, although most are probably in the list anyway. ChappyTC 19:26, 8 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Finlay Speedie

Hiya, just got a quick question regarding Finlay Speedie. You put he joined Bradford City A.F.C. for a few months in 1909. Do you have a reference for that? Or could it be Bradford Park Avenue A.F.C.? I have no record for any player called Finlay Speedie playing for Bradford City. Peanut4 (talk) 23:11, 26 November 2007 (UTC)

I think I guess where you've got your source on Bradford City from. But according to allfootballers.com he was at Bradford Park Avenue not City. And there is no record in Bradford City - A Complete Record by Terry Frost, of Finlay Speedie being at City. I've changed it accordingly. Plus I've added his caps to the entry. [edit] Speedy deletion of James Galt

A tag has been placed on James Galt requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. [edit] Robert Campbell

I was just about to send you a message regarding Robert Campbell. I have two sources on him, both of which agree with you that he played for Rangers. However my sources say he signed for Bradford City from Millwall in 1906, and played for City from 1906 to 1915 including the FA Cup Final 1911. However I have the same birth date and that he also played for Partick Thistle, and Rangers so it must be the same person. I have his date of death as 13 March 1931 if that helps? What is your source? Peanut4 19:13, 3 December 2007 (UTC)

No worries. I will edit Robert Campbell (footballer born 1882) to at least make it a correct stub. He was simply called Robert Campbell, but I don't have dates for his Rangers career. Simply that he started at Partick, moved to Rangers and left for Millwall in 1905. Peanut4 19:28, 3 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Removal of tooshort templates

Hi,

You've twice removed the {{tooshort}} template from Alan Hutton despite it still only being a couple of lines long and saying basically nothing except for his name, age and the teams he's played for. Per WP:LEAD, the introduction section of articles should provide a reasonably complete summary of the import parts of the article. We need at least another paragraph, not another couple of words.

If you're going to remove templates like this in future please at least take a moment to fill in an edit summary to say why. They encourage other editors to come in and help, so shouldn't be removed unless there's a good reason. Chris Cunningham (talk) 20:51, 30 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Speedy deletion of Martin Grehan

A tag has been placed on Martin Grehan requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. [edit] Unconstructive reverts

Hello, Yatesy.

Could you pls explain why you reverted my constructive edits to the List of Rangers F.C. players? My purpose of the edits was to make the page correctly reflect the players' names - as they are really spelled - and to provide the sorting facility with correct sort keys. If you check Template:Sortname, you will see that the exact purpose of the fourth parameter is to provide a sort key without diacritics in case the player's names have them, thus attaining an "English sort order". Also, Ronald de Boer and Giovanni van Bronckhorst should both be sorted under B, don't you think? Cheerio - LarRan (talk) 22:21, 7 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Peter Shilton

I note the edit summary for your recent edit says "no need for youth club since it is the same as first pro club". Can you say where this is set out in the Manual of Style? --Daemonic Kangaroo (talk) 12:51, 14 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] List of Rangers F.C. players

Fantastic work on the list, I have just a couple of points to suggest. The positions should be sorted by this system or something else that works, and if you could add a simple references section such as the ones on other featured lists of players, we could go about nominating it. Cheers, WATP (talk)(contribs) 00:08, 17 January 2008 (UTC)

Nominated, hopefully we'll have the first Rangers related featured content soon. I'm thinking of adding a notes column to the table, like on the Birmingham list and looking at a couple of other ideas from other featured lists of players to add in. WATP (talk)(contribs) 17:08, 17 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Martin Taylor

Hi, I was wondering if you had a good reason for moving Martin Taylor (goalkeeper) and Martin Taylor (defender) to disambiguate them by year of birth instead? I realise playing position isn't necessarily a sensible means of disamb'ing outfielders, but don't really see the point of changing (goalkeeper) and (defender).

However, you may have missed the bit on the Move tab that says "Links to the old page title will not be changed; be sure to check for double redirects (using "What links here") after the move. You are responsible for making sure that links continue to point where they are supposed to go."

As it stands, if you visit Martin Taylor (defender) and click on What links here, you get this list. If you click on, say, Olivier Tebily, it contains a link to Martin Taylor (defender). Click on that and instead of reaching Martin Taylor (footballer born 1979), you get to Martin Taylor (disambiguation), which is a redirect to Martin Taylor, which is a disambiguation page, and only then can you find a link to Martin Taylor the defender.

You may want to pop back and mend the multiple redirects. (Basically, make Martin Taylor (defender) redirect to the new (born 1979) name, then see Help:Moving pages to see what else needs doing.) cheers, Struway2 (talk) 18:18, 28 January 2008 (UTC)

Hi, again. Sorry I didn't have time yesterday to have a proper look at what you'd done when you moved these pages. How it works when a page is moved, is a redirect is created at the "old" name to point to the "new" name, so any pages linking to the old name automatically go to the new one. This means there usually aren't any pages that need to be changed manually. The problem arose because you altered the redirect at Martin Taylor (defender) to point to yet another redirect to the disamb page. If you'd hadn't made that change, then you wouldn't have needed to make manual changes to the BCFC squads, O.Tebily, etc. (This one got overly complicated because there was an earlier Martin Taylor (footballer) page as well). Looks as if User:Bobo192 finished off sorting them out last night, anyway. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 09:29, 29 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Rangers F.C. seasons

I'm thinking this is the next article/list with featured potential. Lists such as Birmingham City F.C. seasons and Ipswich Town F.C. seasons are featured and the Rangers seasons list could be expanded with easily available statistics. Any help would be appreciated, cheers. WATP (talk)(contribs) 22:06, 28 January 2008 (UTC)

Warning

Please refrain from undoing other people's edits repeatedly. If you continue, you may be blocked from editing Wikipedia. Note that the three-revert rule prohibits making more than three reversions in a content dispute within a 24 hour period. Additionally, users who perform a large number of reversions in content disputes may be blocked for edit warring, even if they do not technically violate the three-revert rule. Rather than reverting, discuss disputed changes on the talk page. The revision you want is not going to be implemented by edit warring. Thank you.

Hi there. What you are doing is not allowed. It was pretty rude to revert my change (which was in line with policy); rather than edit-war with you I invite you to restore my change. Failing that I will take the matter further and you may well find yourself with a short break from editing. Best wishes, --John (talk) 14:23, 22 April 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for explaining the criteria for inclusion in this article to me. I was actually one of the authors of the criteria, along with User:Rockpocket. I have no opinion on whether Scheidt belongs on the list or not. The change I made which you reverted was to remove the mention of Wikipedia, which we do not do per Wikipedia:Self-references to avoid. I would remind you that repeatedly reverting other users' additions is not permitted here; instead please discuss in talk towards a compromise or consensus. --John (talk) 15:50, 22 April 2008 (UTC)

You've been asked several times now to provide edit summaries with your edits. You're a good editor, but this is going to get you in trouble before much longer. - Dudesleeper / Talk 00:06, 21 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Contract infobox fields

Just letting you know that the contract field was removed from the infobox template, so it doesn't display anymore. - Dudesleeper / Talk 00:48, 27 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Image copyright

Please immediately stop uploading images you find online as public domain, with the description "I created this image entirely by myself". It takes a long time to investigate and clean up after copyright violations, and that time would be much better spent writing articles. If you continue to violate the copyrights of others, you will be blocked for disruption. (ESkog)(Talk) 23:04, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
