Yashoda is a scheme which has been intiated by the Government of India under the auspices of National Rural Health Mission on 22-05-2008.In Sambalpur District of Orissa,India.Under the scheme special nurses(called Yashodas)have been trained to snoop over the health of both new born infants and the mothers.Under traditional system,mothers were discharged from the maternity home the after 8 hours of the delivery.But,under this scheme,mothers and their new born infants will have to stay in the maternity ward as long as 48 hours after the delivery of the child.The Yashodas are also trained to train mothers about the vaccination and other health related programmes.In the first phase, this scheme has been introduced in Sambalpur district which is to be expanded in the later phase.This type of programme is said to be the first of its kind in India.
