Yapta is an internet travel website created in May 2006. In contrast to other travel websites, such as Orbitz or Travelocity, that compare prices for tickets on several airlines and allow direct purchase of tickets through the website, Yapta does not act as a ticketing agency but tracks the prices of airline tickets which can change frequently. It tracks prices on specific flights and sends the customer a "price drop" email if the price lowers. If a ticket has already been purchased, Yapta will notify the customer if the price drops even lower, since the customer may be entitled to a refund or voucher from the airline.
Yapta is an acronym for "Your Amazing Personal Travel Assistant."
Yapta installs as a small application called the Yapta Tagger. The Tagger works within the internet browser and when it recognizes an airfare displayed on an airline's website, it displays a "Tag It With Yapta" icon next to the price. Adding an airline to be tagged by Yapta is as easy as clicking on the icon.
Yapta then checks the prices of tagged flights several times a day and alerts the customer when prices change. All tagged flights that a customer has selected can be viewed on the Yapta website under "Flights I'm Watching", and clicking on "Buy It Now" will bring up the airline's website so the ticket can be purchased.
Currently, Yapta supports price tracking for the following airlines:
- United Airlines
- American Airlines
- Delta Air Lines
- JetBlue Airways
- US Airways / America West Airlines
- Continental Airlines
- Frontier Airlines
- Alaska Airlines
- AirTran Airways
- Midwest Airlines
