The Yanick Dupre Memorial is an annual award given out by the Philadelphia Flyers of the National Hockey League (NHL) to the "Flyer who best illustrates character, dignity and respect for the sport both on and off the ice."[1] The winner is selected by the Philadelphia chapter of the Professional Hockey Writers' Association (P.H.W.A.).[1] The most recent recipient is Martin Biron.[2]

[edit] History

First awarded following the 1976–77 season, the award was initially given out as the Class Guy Award "to the player who best exemplifies a strong rapport with the media" as decided by the Philadelphia chapter of the P.H.W.A.[1]

The award was re-named and re-defined in 1999 to honor the memory of Yanick Dupre.[1] Dupre, who played 35 games over parts of three seasons with the Flyers, died on August 16, 1997 at the age of 24 after a 16-month battle with leukemia.[1]
