Yangon Institute of Economics, (Image:EconomicTekkado.gif) is the first institution in Burma to offer degrees in Economics and Business studies. It was established in 1964 and now, it is home to Yangon citizens to study at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. A four years courses will qualify to a Bachelor of Economics in three main titles of B.Econ (Commerce), B.Econ (Statistics) and B.Econ (Economics). MBA course was conducted in the 1995.

Yangon Institute of Economics was an independent university since the early time. But, now, it has extended another new campus at Ywarthargyi (Greater Yangon) in order to suit the growing number of students. Its original campuses at Hlaing and Main campus are still opened for postgraduates. Since the agreement of ASEAN meeting in 1997, the institute became a member of ASEAN University Network(AUN) and shared knowledge within ASEAN countries.
