Yamin Messika
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Yamin Messika (in Hebrew: ,ימין מסיקה) is a mizrahi Israeli filmmaker. As one of the busy directors in Israel he established "Hamizarch Productions Ltd" with colleague and life long film associate Yirmy Kadoshi. Their films and music video clips deal with segregation, hard neck second Israel discrimination and deprivation.
His first films since early 1990s are known to star Avi Bitter, soul rough mizrahi singer. The first feature film of Bitter, and director Messika was "Korban Haavah" ("Love Victim") and is renowned throughout film communities in Israel as the mizrahi genre establishing film. The mizrahi genre is said to be a mixture of Indian Bollywood musical style films and Turkish\Egyptian cinemas.
On May 2007 Messika started working on a new feature film starring singer Liat Banai. It also stars for the first time real ashkenazi actors, among them Nimrod Kamer and Itamar Ben Canaan.
