Yamaoka Kagetaka

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Yamaoka Kagetaka (山岡景隆? 1526 - February 13, 1585) was a retainer beneath the Oda clan throughout the late Sengoku period of Feudal Japan. Being the respective son and heir to his father--Yamaoka Kageyuki--Kagetaka was obligated in becoming a primary retainer to the Rokkaku family of southern Omi, holding Seta castle as his initial domain and base of power. Supporting Oda Nobunaga at a later time in his retainer life, Kagetaka became most generally famous for his rational conviction towards the former; for in the year of 1582, when the treacherous Akechi Mitsuhide had initially assassinated Nobunaga at the Honnoji Temple, instead of assisting the traitor's essential retreat into Omi province, Kagetaka ordered every bridge and boat within his domain to be burned into ashes, so that the Akechi could never allow themselves entry. Following this incident, Toyotomi Hideyoshi very willingly allowed Kagetaka employment beneath his service, but Kagetaka's heart still greatly waned from the former's influence, and he made immediate preparations to secretly communicate with Shibata Katsuie by the year of 1583. As Hideyoshi became aware of this course of action, Kagetaka was unfortunately deprived of his entire holdings, causing him to resentfully retire into Koga Province where he would die two years into the future.
