Yalil Guerra

Yalil Guerra is a Cuban born singer, music producer and music arranger.

He was born in Havana in 1973. The son of the famous Cuban vocal duo Rosell y Cary, he started singing when he was 5 years old, performing across Cuba with his family and sister Yamila. His first musical studies were at the National School of Music (ENA) in Havana, Cuba.

At the age of 16, Guerra won the International Competition & Festival of Classical Guitar in Krakow, Poland, as well as the Special Prize. He thus became the youngest Cuban awarded a prize in an international competition. He graduated as a Classical Guitar performer and Professor. Then he moved to Spain, and obtained his Masters degree in Classical Guitar and graduated in Counterpoint and Fugue at the "Queen Sofía" Royal Conservatory of Music in Madrid, Spain. He took classes with Jorge Luis Zamora, Gabriel Estarellas, Joaquín Clerch, Isacc Nicola, Jesús Ortega, Daniel Vega.

His career began as a producer and arranger in 1991. He has worked with artists and musicians like Celia Cruz, Albita Rodríguez, Rey Ruíz, Isaac Delgado, Yamila Guerra, Mirayda, Azuquita, Fernando Carrillo, Luis Conte, Chino Espinoza y Los Dueños del Son, La Charanga Cubana, among others.

The Montreal Symphonic Orchestra is premiering his new work Suite Cubana for String Quartet and Piano at the exposition Cuba, at the Montreal Museum of fine arts March 21st 2008. He writes music for TV networks like Univision and Telefutura, the music of shows like the Latin Grammy 2005, 2006 and 2007, Premio lo Nuestro 2006, 2007 and 2008, Escandalo show, Tributo a los Grammy 2006 and 2007, Upfront, etc, are part of his credits. Also is producing and composing albums at his recording facility in Burbank, California. He is president of RYCY Productions Inc. Recently he finished the work called Clave for Strings and Percussion, using this Cuban rhythmic pattern as a main theme for the composition.

Instruments he play, Classical Guitar, Cuban Tres, Requinto, Piano, Electric bass and Baby bass and small percussion. Yalil is endorsed with Sibelius 5 (notation software), Evelio Dominguez Guitar and Tres and Art Vista Virtual Grand Piano.
