Yacht XV 1 (hydrogen)

The Yacht XV 1 is a hydrogen sailing yacht, power-assisted by an electric motor that gets its electricity from a fuel cell. The debut was in March 2004[1] at Ventura harbor, (Ventura, California).

An onboard system, 2 solar panels 400 Watt, wind generator 90 watt[2], regenerative electric drive motors a reverse-osmosis watermaker[3] and a deionizing filter to convert purified sea water to hydrogen fuel[4]. When under sail the propeller is used to generate 500 watt of electricity for the electrolysis of water.

Boat 42 foot long, 17 kg of hydrogen in a metal hydride hydrogen tank, a 10 kW [5] PEM fuel cell, radius of action 300+ miles at 8 kts on a full tank.
