Y. T. Thathachari (1930-November 1993) was a researcher in many fields, including crystallography, X-ray diffraction, electron microscopy, XAFS studies, Kirlian photography, new imaging techniques, medical information science and studies on language and information. He worked at MIT, Stanford University and the University of California Medical Center, San Francisco, USA and was a visiting professor at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore, and the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Chennai.
Thathachari was diagnosed for cancer in 1963, conquered it and lived for thirty years.
