Xpress Radio is a student radio station based at Cardiff University. It was founded in 1996 and is mainly run by students at the university. It operates from a studio and editing suite on the fourth floor of the Students' Union building. The current station manager of Xpress is Richard 'Gay' Collins.[1]
As it operates on a restricted-service licence (RSL), it has previously been limited in the time and frequency of its broadcasts. FM RSLs are available for a maximum of four weeks, and assigned to frequencies at the far ends of the band. As Xpress obtains licences for two separate periods in each year, it is possible, and has sometimes been the case, that the two broadcasts are on different frequencies (typically below 88 MHz, or above 106 MHz).
The station is set for another FM RSL beginning on March 1st 2008, as well as starting, for the same period of time, on the Cardiff & Newport DAB multiplex on the same day.
Ex-members include Vicki Blight, Nick Simon and Roop & Tom.

Xpress Radio recently had a cross-over moment when a DJ from University of Wales, Newport's Radio Noize ran for charity from Newport Student's Union to Cardiff's Student Union. The DJ, Jonny Roberts, was then interviewed live on Xpress by mainstream show TNT making it the first time the two stations had interacted live on air.(Wow...)
Xpress also link annually with Swansea University's station Xtreme Radio to present live coverage of the Welsh Varsity sporting events between the two institutions, including a full live commentary from the Men's Rugby match in the evening.[2]
