XM Satellite Radio Indy 200
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Professional open wheel racing in Phoenix, Arizona has happened in three venues: the Arizona State Fairgrounds, Phoenix International Raceway and in downtown Phoenix.
Among American open wheel series, there have been races for USAC, CART (now Champ Cars) and the Indy Racing League, most held at Phoenix International Raceway. Formula One also raced in downtown Phoenix from 1989 to 1991 at what is called the Phoenix street circuit.
Most recently, the XM Satellite Radio Indy 200 was the name of the Indy Racing League IndyCar Series race held at Phoenix International Raceway in Phoenix, Arizona, last run in 2005.
In 2007, an attempt to have a scheduled Champ Car race in Phoenix, called Grand Prix Arizona, was aborted four months before the event due to lack of sponsorship funding.
