Protected User:XLinkBot/RevertList is a page in the User namespace, which only administrators may edit.
To request a change to it, please list a request here.

User:XLinkBot/RevertList is meant to be used by User:XLinkBot. Unlike the meta spam blacklist and the local spam-blacklist, the revertlist does not disable the use of a link, but its addition gets reverted if there is significant inappropriate use (by unestablished editors). Any administrator may edit the RevertList and the accompanied override and lock-lists (User:XLinkBot/OverrideList, User:XLinkBot/HardOverrideList, User:XLinkBot/UserLocks, User:XLinkBot/PageLocks.

Dealing with requests

Any admin unfamiliar with this page should probably read this first, thanks
  1. User:XLinkBot generally reverts only new users (users who created an account less than 7 days ago), and IP-users, hence, users which are generally not familiar with our Policies and guidelines. This can be altered by the settings and override and lock lists.
  2. Does the link generally get used in an inappropriate way by unestablished users, but does it not qualify for the meta spam blacklist or the local spam-blacklist since there are documents on the same server that should/could be used as an external link or reference?
  3. Make the entry at the bottom of the list (before the last line). Please do not do this unless you are familiar with regex — the disruption that can be caused is substantial.
  4. Close the request entry on here using either {{done}} or {{not done}} as appropriate. The request should be left open for a week maybe as there will often be further related sites or an appeal in that time.
  5. Log the entry. Warning: if you do not log any entry you make on the blacklist, it may well be removed if someone appeals and no valid reasons can be found. To log the entry, you will need this number - 217187279 after you have closed the request. See here for more info on logging.

This site is continually being inserted in Klingon, Borg starships, Vulcan starships and Borg. As per WP:EL, this url is neither helpful nor informative as it is purely in Spanish. I have warned (within a range of IP addresses) several times and suggested they try the Spanish Wikipedia—I am not able to judge whether the site is up to scratch for that. Definately. My essay provides plenty of evidence regarding the many problems with the link being used in articles.

Free hosting site for images, not sure about abuse, therefore posting here to monitor:

Comment Some images on Flickr are hosted under a Creative Commons Licence. Some of those (not all) are suitable for use on Wikipedia. Blocking of this site could create problems for existing images uploaded to Wikipedia, and prevent future images being used when they may be needed to illustrate an article. This is not blocking, this is reverting inappropriate additions, which, I am afraid, is true for most of the additions by unestablished editors of domains on this list. Mainly seeing this used for posting links to scanned articles from video game magazines against WP:COPY policy; see eg Special:Contributions/Kinoku (the entire history of this user is spamlinking this site) and this [13] (single addition by a more experienced user). MyoRehab clinic links repeatedly added to multiple pages by differing IPs following block of a user.

  • See 68.35.21.191 (talk · contribs) repeated spamming additions, I've blocked this IP for a second time
  • Also 69.49.164.173 (talk · contribs) on 10 April 2008
  • And previously [14] in November 2007 by indefinitely blocked User:Myofascial.

Having just blocked 68.35.21.191, Strhoppr (talk · contribs) immediately reappeared after an absence of 18 months (so blocked as sockpuppet=meatpuppet for spamming & circumventing IP's block). Given now apparent that multiple accounts are being used for this spamming, including old inactive accounts (which if I read above instructions this bot wont catch ?) - I've asked User:Hu's help in how to have links perminently barred - please let me know if I'm not using or implementing url-block proceedures correctly :-) David Ruben Talk 01:59, 21 May 2008 (UTC)

Several IPs (most likely the same person as they all resolve to the same shared IP) persist in adding an external link (while often redacting others and damaging citations in the process) to the Madman Muntz article despite having repeatedly been asked not to, warned, and blocked. The external link is to a website that is almost entirely a copy and paste of the Wikipedia article itself (the remainder is copyvio from other fansites), plus a huge lot of copyvio images from uncredited sources. The link does not conform to WP:EL. Diffs:

Please remove links to "\bcato\.org" (Cato Institute), "\bmises\.org" (Ludwig von Mises Institute) and "\blewrockwell\.com" (Lewrockwell.com) as these web addresses often contain writings of notable figures (40+, see linked articles) and thus these websites meet WP:RS at the very least in virtue of WP:SPS. For those there is not an appropriate log, they were added before we started logging. I am having a look around. Please be aware, that the bot only reverts IPs and new accounts, and that good link can be added to this wikipedia inappropriately (being pushed, spammed, or added with promotional intent etc.), and that may be the reason that it is on the revertlist.
  • mises.org, seems to be widely used, there appear to be a couple of accounts that have this site as a favourite, but no clear sign of spamming, removed
  • cato.org, no sign of spamming, not as widely used, removed.
  • lewrockwell.com, similar, no clear spamming, removed.
Thanks for the question, guess one of the operators added it when we were still working with the internal database (not with this list) while there were some IPs using the link too often. Hope this helps!

Thank you for your swift, succinct and very unbitey response, Dirk. As the above sites are all written from a particular point of view (libertarian/anarcho-capitalist), it's possible some POV-warrior used them disruptively in the past; that said, each is host of well-respected scholarship, and Wikipedia is the better for having restored their use.
