[edit] meaning of xiu xiu

If the name is taken from the film, then the Chinese characters are 秀秀 (xiu4xiu4). But 秀 doesn't mean "silk", see [1], [2], etc. Akriasas 01:15, 14 February 2007 (UTC)

the kind of nonsense you get when chinese is translated to english, which is so prevalent in the west it's unbelievable. the 'xiu' here is used as a name and doesnt occur singly in common use. it means 'elegant/graceful' and can also mean 'show/performance' in other contexts. check out this website by the way [3] —Preceding unsigned comment added by 60.53.8.158 (talk) 13:18, 7 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Being a LGBTProject Article

Why exactly is article classified as such? I see other groups like Lesbian & Gay Big Apple Corps and Limp Wrist. I can understand that because it's nearly their mission statement that they are LGBT friendly. Although Xiu Xiu may be also, is it necessary to include every single person or group on Wikipedia that doesn't hate LGBTs? Clocktopus 16:10, 21 February 2007 (UTC)

The frontman is bisexual --i dont know how to sign posts

So that is the only criteria for an article to be LGBT Friendly? I respectfully disagree with that. And you can sign your posts with four ~ tilde. Clocktopus 17:14, 24 February 2007 (UTC)

They've played at queer music festivals and have many songs with LGBT or queer subject matter in addition to Jamie Stewart being gay or bisexual himself... so yeah, I'd say they fall under the LGBTProject. My little needle 22:20, 26 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Origin

Is the band originally from San Jose or San Francisco? The first paragraph of the article says that they are originally from and currently in San Francisco ("with time spent in Seattle"), in other places I've read that they are from San Jose, with "time spent" in Seattle and San Francisco. While very close to San Francisco, San Jose is a very different city so I think it's important to make a distinction. Also, what does "time spent" mean? Why does every biography of this band I read insist on making it clear that they spend time in Seattle and San Francisco? Don't all bands travel around, and indeed, spend some time in those two cities? Da-Veed 02:09, 20 August 2007 (UTC)
