Xianjian Qixia Zhuan 3 (Chinese: 仙劍奇俠傳三, literally "The Legend of Sword and Fairy 3") is a wuxia turn-based role-playing game in a fantasy/medieval setting. It is a sequel to the original Legend of Sword and Fairy and takes place approximately fifty years prior to the original Legend of Sword and Fairy I, around the Tang Dynasty or Song Dynasty. It tells the story of Jing Tien (景天), a young assistant pawnbroker who has adventures after an unlikely encounter with a young noblewoman, Xue Jian (雪見).

[edit] Opening animation
The story begins with the opening animation. We see a woman on a tree, which is later seen to be Shi Yao (夕瑤), the god in charge of the Shen Shu (神樹, literally Tree of Gods). We then see Fei-Pung (飛蓬), a god, and Chong Lo (重樓), a demon fighting. Their fight lasted for three days, and the gods were angry at Fei-Pung for not guarding the Shen Muo Zhi Jing (神魔之井, literally Well of Gods and Demons), and demons were leaking in the divine realm. Fei-Pung was distracted and his sword fell into the mortal realm, to become the Zhen Yao Jian (鎮妖劍, literally Monster Destroyer Sword) of Shu-Shan.
Chong Lo, seeing Fei Pung reincarnated as a lowly pawnbroker Jing Tien, decided to get his sword back for him. But instead of getting him the Zhen Yao Jian, he accidentally got the Muo Jian (魔劍, literally Demon Sword or Magical Sword), a sword forged by his first reincarnation, Long Yang (龍陽), who was a prince of a small country during the Warring Period (戰國時代).

[edit] Jing, Qi, Shen
The characters' stats are measured in Jing, Qi, and Shen.
Jing is literally hit points or health. There are xianshu to regain hit points, and there are also potions that can also be used to regain hit points. Sleeping in an inn, or Jing Tien or Xue Jian's room will completely regain all jing.
Qi is used to perform special techniques. Qi can not be regained by potions, but can be regained by being hurt in battle. It also completely recovers every time the character gains a level, like jing and shen.
Shen is used to perform xianshu (仙術, literally Immortal Spells). Shen is literally magic points or mana. Xianshu are spells of the five elementals. It can be regained by drinking potions, but shen potions are much more expensive than jing potions. Sleeping in an inn, or Jing Tien or Xue Jian's room will also completely regain all shen.
[edit] Five Elementals, Xianshu and the Elemental Formation
[edit] Five Elementals
The five elementals (五靈) are an important factor in the Legent of Sword and Fairy 3. They are: Fire, Water, Lightning, Wind and Earth. They should not be mixed with the five elements (五行) in Chinese philosophy (metal, wood, water, fire, earth). An NPC in the game at Peng Lai (蓬萊) even states that specifically.
The five elements work in this way: fire is greater than lightning, lightning is greater than wind, wind is greater than earth, earth is greater than water and water is greater than fire.
All characters have an attribute. Jing Tien is wind, Xue Jian is earth, Long Kui is lightning, Zi Xuan is water and Chang Qing is fire. They are allowed to use xianshu of the respective elemental.
Later, the player will gain five scrolls, which will allow a second character learn the spells of a certain elemental. The five elemental scrolls are as follows:
- Fire Scroll, given by the Pi-Li Tang monsters outside Bin-Hua.
- Water Scroll, given by the head of Peng-Lai.
- Lightning Scroll, given by the cloak of Chong Lo.
- Wind Scroll, given in the Gu Teng Lin.
- Earth Scroll, given by Wan Yu Zhe.
[edit] Xianshu
Each xianshu has four levels, which determines the needed time to enchant the spell, and can be leveled up through use. Once a xianshu is of a certain level, the character may learn the next xianshu of the attribute. There are five xianshu of each attribute.
There is also combined xianshu, which is learned when a character learns two specific xianshu to a level and also has passed the restricted level. Combined xianshu is very powerful, but takes more shen.
[edit] Elemental Formation
The elemental formation (五靈法陣) is first introduced in the Legend of Sword and Fairy 3. When a character stands on the same attribute as the xianshu he or she uses, the xianshu will have enhanced power. However, if he or she stands on the attribute that defeats the attribute of his or her xianshu, the xianshu will have decreased power.
[edit] Six Realms
There are six realms, as follows:
- Divine Realm (神界)
- Immortal Realm (仙界)
- Mortal Realm (人界)
- Monster Realm (妖界)
- Death Realm (鬼界)
- Demon Realm (魔界)
[edit] Trivia
All of the main characters are named after plants.
