Xia Deren

Xia Deren (Chinese: 夏德仁; born June 1955 in Dalian) is the mayor of Dalian, Liaoning, China (Jan. 2003 - present).

After his undergraduate education, Xia joined Dongbei University of Finance and Economics (DUFE) of Dalian and became a teaching assistant, where he spent his pre-political years. He completed his masters and doctoral degrees at DUFE's finance department, and then served as the department's deputy dean and associate professor. Xia later became DUFE's vice-president (of supervision), while teaching as a professor and mentor for doctoral students. Not long after his eventual step-up as the president of the DUFE, Xia's political career took off.
In 1999, Xia was appointed as the deputy mayor of Dalian Municipal Government. He later served as (in chronicle order) a member of the standing committee of the CPC Dalian Committee and executive vice-mayor, member of the standing committee of CPC Liaoning Committee and deputy governor of Liaoning Provincial Government, deputy secretary of the CPC Dalian Committee.
In January 2003, Xia was elected the standing member of the CPC Liaoning Committee, deputy governor of Liaoning, deputy secretary of CPC Dalian Committee and mayor of Dalian.
Xia is responsible for the overall management of the government; he is in charge of the Finance Bureau, the Supervision Bureau, and the Audit Bureau.
