Talk:Xgraph

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This article is very misleading as the term xgraph refers to several different programs and technologies. The term was first used to describe a 2D plotting program called xgraph for the X Windowing system graphics environment. It was developed by David Harrison of UC Berkeley between 1986 and 1989:

But as the above links describe, several modifications were created, that introduced features like animation. Other modifications kept the name, but made more drastic GUI changes, e.g.

And other programs that can read the original xgraph file format or modifications of it are:

I must admit that I never heard of captovis xgraph file format before reading about it here on Wikipedia, though I have been using xgraph since 1991...

Here is one more discovery, Gslaterp, who created this page is working for the company captovis that he is referring to. Smells like self promotion to me. See:

I agree with User:Pmg:Pmg, this is a very misleading article. David Harrison wrote xgraph while at University of California, Berkeley, I think xgraph deserves an article, it is notable. Total disclosure: I work in the UCB EECS department, though I never met David Harrison. I'm the maintainer of an early version of his sources, and the author of a Java version | Ptplot]. I propose that we have a disambiguation page here Cxbrx 02:46, 17 April 2007 (UTC)
