Xenotyphlops is a monotypic genus created for the blind snake species, X. grandidieri, found in Madagascar. No subspecies are currently recognized.[2]

Found only from the type locality, which is "Madagascar", and the type specimens.[1]

A new species, X. mocquardi, was described in 2005 after the collection another single speciemen.[3]
