Congratulations, I have just closed your RfA as successful and made you an administrator. Take a look at the administrators' how-to guide and the administrators' reading list if you haven't read those already. Also, the practice exercises at the new admin school may be useful. Can you help me with my personal status thing. I made a board of status faces but they don't work.Wikieditor 222    01:19, 4 June 2008 (UTC)
I'm not quite sure what you're trying to accomplish but if you want to add your own custom statuses you'll need two pages - one to hold the statuses and one to hold the switch. User:Wikieditor222/StatusTemplate now holds the template and User:Wikieditor222/Status now holds the switch. Your custom status "stupid" should work properly now - though I don't know why you'd want to say that! Let me know if you need further assistance. xenocidic (talk) 01:29, 4 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Your In-depth analysis

You've got a slight typing error in this section, where you have "Wisdom89 was an early was an early strong supporter". Useight (talk) 02:32, 4 June 2008 (UTC)

Between the possibly divisive connotations of xenocidic vs. Xeno, I think I'd go with your current name. Just my opinion though. Congrats btw. dorftrottel (talk) 04:01, 4 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Heh

Lol at your summary: "While Naerii was initially unconvinced, they later deleted the entire oppose discussion and switched to support, citing a popular Eminem song in the edit summary as the justification for this change." - it makes me sound so crazy when written formally like that! I just realised that my concerns were kind of petty, and seeing as I supported Evula in her recent RFB even after seeing her mention somewhere that she hasn't written much in the articlespace I figured it would be hypocritical not to support you for admin. It's nice that you're taking opposes into account rather than taking a stance of "well I've passed now, I can forget all that crap", though. My exams are over soon (in 6 hours as a matter of fact :o) so if you need any help writing articles over the summer I'd be glad to assist (personally I'm going to be writing some boring history stuffs). Improving an article to GA or FA can be pretty daunting on your own, so I'd be happy to help out if you like :)

And the edit summary was just me pissing about I guess; I rarely if ever use edit summaries and when I do remember I can never think of anything to say, so sometimes I just quote whatever I happen to be listening to at the time (how embarassing to admit that I listen to Eminem :(). Congrats on passing your RfA. naerii - talk 04:15, 4 June 2008 (UTC)

Not embarrassing at all - Eminem rocks! or raps... or something... Sorry, I didn't meant to make you out to seem crazy, I wrote it that way for comedic effect. =) (I can change it if you want) I must admit I did have a chuckle when I read it. at first I was like... wtf? until I realized where it was from. Still, I was rather confused - thanks for clearing that up for me. and I might take you up on that offer, though, my area of expertise... well,... it's been getting some scorn from the GA/FA review projects recently. as for addressing the opposes, I feel that they are the most important part of the RFA, they really need to be taken into account and you need to look at how you can improve for the betterment of the encyclopedia as a whole. anyways, thanks again. xenocidic (talk) 04:22, 4 June 2008 (UTC)
Lmao it's fine, it cracked me up :P I've seen some grumbling about the video game wikiproject in FAC recently but I wouldn't take it to heart if I were you; most of the articles I write are about albums and that area is looked down on just as much as video games are and to be honest I give about this <-> much of a shit ;) So yeah just let me know if you want any assistance with anything (wikis are all about collaboration after all) - I'm not the world's best writer but I enjoy expanding articles (people will just have to deal with my amateur prose - you know it's really ironic since I got 94% in my English Literature A Level). naerii - talk 04:43, 4 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Re: Your RFA

Hey Xenocidic, I hope you weren't offended/put off by my switch (seemingly at the last minute) to a weak oppose. Nothing personal of course. I do think you're a strong contributor/editor, but after revisiting the discussion, the CSD tagging took me somewhat aback. I swayed back and forth about it for a while before changing my !vote. I think you'll make a good admin though, just as long as you don't bite the newbies by tagging an A7 as an attack page : ) Wisdom89 (T / C) 04:37, 4 June 2008 (UTC)

Offended - not at all - I've come to respect your contributions to the RFA process and I know you wouldn't have done that without deep deliberation. No hard feelings whatsoever. Truthfully, I didn't expect to be at RFA so soon, I really did want some coaching on the CSD stuff - but no matter. I'll have to learn on the job =) xenocidic (talk) 04:42, 4 June 2008 (UTC)

Congratulations. Here are what pass for words of wisdom from the puppy:
  1. Remember you will always protect the wrong version.
  2. Remember you must always follow the rules, except for when you ignore them. You will always pick the wrong one to do. (See #5)
  3. Remember to assume good faith and not bite. Remember that when you are applying these principles most diligently, you are probably dealing with a troll.
  4. Use the block ability sparingly. Enjoy the insults you receive when you do block.
  5. Remember when you make these errors, someone will be more than happy to point them out to you in dazzling clarity and descriptive terminology.
  6. and finally, Remember to contact me if you ever need assistance, and I will do what I am able.

[edit] Re:

Yeah, well, there's only like one person on Wikipedia who I think possibly deserves to be an admin more than you and now you are one. Also, great idea with RfA analysis page. Maybe I'll get a chance sometime to stealcopy that idea sometime. As for your other idea, I dunno man. I still make mistakes with CSD tagging (though this one was a result of misunderstanding how Twinkle works) and that definitely would not help me very much, especially considering my lack of CSD participation was a major factor in the failure of my rfa. (that, along with my boneheaded answers to the questions....) Anyway, I think I should probably wait until late June at the absolute earliest before trying again. Either way, I don't really need the tools to do what I do (though me having them might make some of the guys at AIV happier.....) and if I do need an admin for something like a move-over-redirect, I know exactly who to ask ;) so it's no big deal if I don't have the tools. Not to say I wouldn't like to have them, I would, but I'm basically saying that I can still make good (even great....well... ;) ) contributions to Wikipedia without them. So yeah. Congrats on your Rfa (again). It's really cool you passed it. Anyway, talk to you later. Thingg 17:01, 4 June 2008 (UTC)

Dang it! ¬_¬ (I was thinking: ok, they know I'm weird already, but maybe that's going a little too far....) Thingg 17:40, 4 June 2008 (UTC)
Also, are you using {{Adoption backlog/count}} for anything other than {{Adoption backlog}}? If you aren't you could probably delete (man, that's weird suggesting that you delete something...) that page because I transcluded the text of that page into the userbox page. [edit] Congrats!

Three cheers and a tiger for your successful RfA! Ecoleetage (talk) 02:29, 5 June 2008 (UTC)

I'm glad for your success. And please don't take negative comments raised in the RfA discussion to heart. If you can recall the old Rick Nelson song "Garden Party," it had the lyric: "See, you can't please everyone, so you've got to please yourself." If you're satisfied with yourself, then ultimately that is all that matters. So...what's your first order of Admin business? Who's going to be the first person to get blocked by the Xenocidic mop of justice? :) Be well. Ecoleetage (talk) 13:07, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
Eh, blocking mannequins doesn't count! Some lucky person will be your first block -- they should be happy they are contributing to your Admin history. However, if I knew you were stealing jokes from Yakov Smirnoff, I would've voted Super Strong Oppose <kidding>. Thanks! Ecoleetage (talk) 13:14, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
Well done! Glad to hear of your success :-) Lradrama 15:57, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
  • Hmmm...I just took a peek at your contributions for the day. Apparently you're on a one-man blocking attack. At the rate you're going, you should have all of the vandals off the site by midnight! :) Ecoleetage (talk) 01:44, 6 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Beyond Good and Evil edits

Hi!

I've recently (June 1st) made some contributions to the Beyond Good & Evil (video game) page which were subsequently rolled back by you. I'd like to understand what exactly caused the rollback. Your comment on the rollback indicates 'spam'; however, I'd like to contest that qualification of the edits I made. The exact edits I made were as follows:

1) corrected improper grammar in the Reception section 2) added a reference to the game scoring top placement in a "Top 25 Video Game Heroes of All Time" article. 3) updated the Series Development to correctly reflect the recent confirmation of Beyond Good and Evil 2 (the previous version of the text spoke about this as non-confimed event, with the actual confirmation being simply tacked on at the end, which created an inconsistency) 4) added a reference to a review of the game at GameLemon.com

Of these, edits 1 and 3 (at the very least) have absolutely nothing to do with spam. These edits did not include any links at all, and simply corrected grammar and corrected outdated information. I am at a loss to understand why these were not deemed an improvement to the article.

As for edits 2 and 4, I can conceivably understand the spam designation since these two edits did include outside links to GameLemon.com, a site where I serve as Editor-in-Chief. Even in these cases however, please note that I did not just blindly add links. I added a reference to a professionally written and presented review of the game, which should be perfectly acceptable for adding to the table of reviews already present (from IGN, GameSpy, and the like), unless there are some special qualifications of which review sources are eligible to be listed there that I am not aware of.

The other edit (#2 above) refers to an article where the main character of the game was listed in one of the top positions in a Top 25 Video Game Heroes of All Time editorial, which is certainly relevant to the 'Reception' discussion. It's instructive to point out that the said article was a Top article on Digg.com with over 1200 diggs and hundreds of user comments, as well as enjoying broad popularity on several other large news and gaming sites - so it can in no way be construed as irrelevant, niche, or 'spam'. Myself and the rest of the GameLemon editorial team fully stand behind the integrity of our content, and if you take some time to peruse the said article, I am sure you'll recognize its high level of quality and relevance to the discussion here. While it would be silly to deny that creating broader exposure for my site was one of my goals in making these particular edits, I am sure you'd agree that this alone is not a reason to disqualify this content as long as its actually valuable and relevant, which I strongly believe it is. I am fully aware that all external links on Wikipedia include the 'no-follow' attribute, so I am not doing this to try to boost Google PageRank or anything of the sort.

In light of the above, I'd appreciate if you'd take a few minutes to offer your thoughts on the matter. I recognize that I am new to Wikipedia, so I certainly contend that there may be aspects of the Wikipedia code of conduct that I have not yet grasped; if that is indeed so, I'd appreciate according clarfications on the subject.

thanks for your time,

Vaga koleso (talk) 05:53, 5 June 2008 (UTC)

In looking at the edits, there was indeed some edits of value, but the reversion was done while I was reverting all your edits to video game articles for the addition of the "Game Lemon" links. The practice of adding one's own site as a reference to video game articles is strongly discouraged, however if you wish to dispute this, feel free to raise the issue at the Video Games WikiProject. I will re-add the edits of merit, but consider the conflict of interests presented when adding your own work as a citation when editing Wikipedia and review our guidelines on reliable sources. xenocidic (talk) 11:17, 5 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Ready for that block

Based on the 68.217.248.180's last edit summary, I think he's about ready for a long block. Also, he gave what looks to be a real phone number in an edit summary earlier, that'll probably have to be deleted. Gwynand | TalkContribs 15:51, 5 June 2008 (UTC)

Nalwin beat me to it. I'll delete that phone number as soon as I figure out how to. xenocidic (talk) 15:54, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
Y Done. xenocidic (talk) 16:58, 5 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] IP block

Hi! Sorry to step on your toes, but I go after personal attackers right away. It's perfectly OK for you to block someone who's vandalized your userpage, assuming the proper warnings have been previously given (or if it's one of our periodic serial vandals, see Wikipedia:Long term abuse. And, speaking of serial vandals, you should protect your user page and talk page against moves -- there's no reason for anyone but you to be moving those. Welcome to the team! NawlinWiki (talk) 15:54, 5 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Re: Congrats

I guess you submitted a request for oversight? Gary King (talk) 17:02, 5 June 2008 (UTC)

Is it actually your phone number? I figured it was just some random phone number. xenocidic (talk) 17:03, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
It was a random number. Gary King (talk) 17:04, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
I don't think oversight is necessary in this case then, but I'll seek a second opinion. xenocidic (talk) 17:05, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
If you didn't go through oversight, then how did you remove a diff? I thought that's what oversight was for. Gary King (talk) 17:07, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
Delete page, restore everything except the offending revision. (See Wikipedia:New admin school/Deleting#Restoring selected revisions). From what I understand oversight is only necessary in extreme cases. cheers, xenocidic (talk) 17:09, 5 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Just astonishingly nosy...

...I have to ask. :) I've still got your talkpage on my watchlist in case further discussion comes up about CSD issues, and I've several times noticed you indicating "refactor reply". Being curious, I've peaked in to see that in fact you're just replying. (So far as I can tell.) Since refactoring a reply has such a specific meaning on Wikipedia, I just have to ask how you're using that term. Feel free to not tell me if it's some special fancy secret inside code. :D

While I'm here, how's it all going with the new admin stuff? Feel like you're getting the hang of things? :) --Moonriddengirl (talk) 17:15, 5 June 2008 (UTC)

So you're like me! Refactor reply - I replied on their talk page, but copied it to my page. Improper usage of the term? As far as getting the hang of things, I've so far only blocked the test accounts (naughty, naughty test accounts), but I've deleted a potentially sensitive revision. Other than that, haven't done much. Was busy yesterday, and still getting my thank-spam out. =) xenocidic (talk) 17:17, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
LOL! Absolutely. My extremely long, overly linked comments should tell you that. :D I don't know if it's improper use to the term or not (of if it would matter). It just made me curious because I couldn't figure out what you meant by it. This was no subtle trout slapping of the disingenuous but diplomatic "Oh, gee, I bet you can give me a really good reason for deleting ANI" feigned confusion kind, just real confusion. :D I got it now.
When I got my tools, I headed into CSDs right away as new page patrol was a major part of my work before then. It took me months to get comfortable at AfD, I've only just started helping out to any extent at CSD images, and I still don't do a lot of blocking (sometimes I'll help out at a backlog at AIV, but generally I'll wind up blocking a page creation vandal or doing a promotional username block as a side effect of CSD work). There's so so many ways to contribute, and such a never-ending need for tool users. Wherever you feel like helping out, there's bound to be a need. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 17:28, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
(edit conflict)I'd like to ironically cut in here and say that I've also seen the "refactoring reply" a bunch of times, but I guess it's no worse than what I always use: "added comment". Useight (talk) 17:29, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
I type "reply" so routinely that sometimes I find myself having to remove it from the edit summary when I realize I'm not replying at all, but starting something new. :) --Moonriddengirl (talk) 17:31, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
On a related note, I've had to removed ~~~~ from the end of my e-mails multiple times. And those are regular old Hotmail e-mails, too. Useight (talk) 17:35, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
Do you find yourself adding wikilinks in e-mails? I do that all the time. :) --Moonriddengirl (talk) 17:36, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
No, I haven't done that yet, but thanks a lot. :) Useight (talk) 17:39, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
Guilty on both counts! xenocidic (talk) 17:41, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
heh, I hear that. I'll start using "rr" as I know actual refactoring typically has a more far-reaching effect. oh, both of you feel free to help me expand my talk page stalker humour page, since you're now both confirmed stalkers! xenocidic (talk) 17:33, 5 June 2008 (UTC)

←If you add a sign-up section or make a userbox, I'm right there. Otherwise, I'm afraid my wit may not be up to the task. :/ --Moonriddengirl (talk) 17:36, 5 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Request

(copied from Keeper's talk for posterity's sake) Hey Keeper, do you mind taking a quick look at the blocks I performed today and make sure everything is in order? Especially the 3 month IP blocks (they had previously received 1-monthers) and the most recent indef for vandalism-only. Thanks, xenocidic (talk) 21:10, 5 June 2008 (UTC)

Sure, give me a sec. I don't do a ton of blocking (not my forte), but I understand it anywho...Keeper | 76 | Disclaimer 21:12, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
Ah, excellent work, Xeno! I especially liked your creative ThisIsATest block rationale :-). The three month block was good, the indef was obvious. I would actually say you were a bit conservative with this one, I think that could have been indef as well, clearly not here to be constructive. You're doing great! Keeper | 76 | Disclaimer 21:18, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
Aye, the first few were a little conservative, kindof like the way you dip your foot in a pool to check the temperature. xenocidic (talk) 21:56, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
I know exactly what you're saying. Better to err on the side of caution, lest you end up a thread at WP:ANI as an "incompetent new admin". My first "serious" block was for like 12 hours tops. My first "serious" indef, I brought to AN myself :-). Be encouraged though, you're doing just fine! Keeper | 76 | Disclaimer 21:59, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
Exxcellent advice. I've been taken to ANI a number of times for my blocks... if I have any question/concern about a block (or page protection) I will take myself to ANI just to let somebody else look at them.---Balloonman PoppaBalloon 22:03, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
Taken to ANI for your blocks? You? I thought you'd never made a bad block!  :-P Keeper | 76 | Disclaimer 22:07, 5 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Adding administrative logs

As an aside (you're doing great as far as I can tell as an admin), you may want to add the block/delete/protect logs to your userpage. It's not only a quick reference for yourself, it lets others see and link to your admin actions quickly and easily. See this section of my userpage for an example that you are welcome to copy (obviously changing it to your username). It's what I used to quickly link to your action logs. Cheers, Keeper | 76 | Disclaimer 21:22, 5 June 2008 (UTC)

As another example from somebody else who thinks that's a good idea, there's User:Moonriddengirl/Contributions. :) --Moonriddengirl (talk) 21:36, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
STALKER!!!! (Actually, I can remember vividly butting into conversations on your page too, so I suppose 'tis fair :-P ) Keeper | 76 | Disclaimer 21:38, 5 June 2008 (UTC)

k, I'll add those logs as soon as I sort out my new userpage. Thanks for the suggestion. xenocidic (talk) 21:56, 5 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Adoption - Page Pilfering

Hi,

I'm setting up my adoptees page (for when i'm ready to adopt) and i was wondering if I could pilfer a certain table from your Adoptees page?   «l| Ψrom3th3ăn ™ |l»  02:30, 6 June 2008 (UTC)

Certainly. Thanks for asking. and that reminds me, I've got potential adoptees to respond to. xenocidic (talk) 02:31, 6 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Watching

No. :) . My trick is this; if you have tabbed browsing, open up a new tab with the users Special:Contributions. Then just refresh that tab every minute or so to see if they make another bad edit. That any help? I see you're going nice and slow at AIV - good stuff! It's too easy to whack the hammer. Pedro :  Chat  13:24, 6 June 2008 (UTC)

And that particular school just got a seven day block for one bad edit today. Okay, there's a history and it's a school, but .... hmmmmm. Oh well, to each their own. Feel free to hit me up with any questions at all though - it's a bit disconcerting the first few times you use the buttons! Pedro :  Chat  13:31, 6 June 2008 (UTC)

I was a little too vague I guess - I meant this as a nomination offer: "Will you let me know when you're ready for a RfA?" Sorry about that :) - DiligentTerrier (and friends) 14:40, 6 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] My RfA

Hello, Xenocidic, and thank you for your recent participation in my RfA, which was closed per WP:NOTNOW after reaching a vote tally of 5/15/2. While I am disappointed in the outcome, I understand that it - as well as the comments left by yourself and others - was in the best interests of Wikipedia at this time. I plan to take everything that was written to heart and improve myself here on Wikipedia with a goal of perhaps accepting a nomination again in the future, should someone choose to nominate me. As a way of gathering further feedback, I have created a page in my user space for other editors to leave comments about things that they might have observed during my RfA and to continue my "education process," as it may be considered. If you would like to contribute to that page, it may be found here. Again, thank you for participating and I appreciate your comments! --InDeBiz1 (talk) 18:09, 6 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Re: *chuckle*

heh. yeah, I took your advice. (you big important admin now....) So far, no one has said anything about it, so I guess it's ok. (And I'm willing to bet there's a message about my incorrect tagging of image talk pages waiting for me right now......¬_¬) Also, are you aware you just broke one of the most important principles of Wikipedia??! YOU ARE ALWAYS SUPPOSED TO BE BOLD!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YOU SHOULD BE DE-SYSOPPED IMMEDIATELY AND BANNED FOR 75 YEARS!!!!!!1!!!!!!1111!!!!11 (YEEESSSS!!! I've always wanted to use the caps-lock button on Wikipedia and I just did!!!!) ..... What are you looking at me for? I'm just making my comments more interesting...... *cries* Thingg 18:39, 6 June 2008 (UTC)

As far as I know, YESSSSS!!!!!111!!!!1 (ok, enough with the caps already.... *hangs head*) What you could probably do to find out is look through my deleted contribs (I'm pretty sure there's a page like that that's accessible to admins, but I'm not sure) for any image talk pages. [edit] Question on IP vandal

Sorry to bother, but I don't understand something. The IP vandal I reported earlier was given a final warning on his talk page not to disrupt the site at 20:41 at 27 May 2008. However, he did two more pieces of vandalism, at 20:55 on 27 May 2008 and 17:25 on 29 May 2008. Why is he being allowed to get away with that? Is there a statute of limitation? Thanks for clarifying that point. Ecoleetage (talk) 19:41, 6 June 2008 (UTC)

Hi Eco - the reason I didn't block the user was because blocks are meant to be preventative - not punitive. Since he hasn't edited in over a week, there is no clear and present danger to the encyclopedia. Thus, it's advisable not to submit an AIV report on a user who has been inactive for longer than 10-15 minutes. Hope that helps. See also Wikipedia:Blocking policy. xenocidic (talk) 19:44, 6 June 2008 (UTC)

Understood. I got a lot to learn. Thanks! Ecoleetage (talk) 19:47, 6 June 2008 (UTC)

Twinkle is for Mozilla only, no? I am on IE. Is Huggle okay for this? Ecoleetage (talk) 20:11, 6 June 2008 (UTC)
Yes, I believe twinkle works on Firefox only, but I would suggest upgrading to Firefox anyway. It's free, and much more robust than IE. ( http://www.mozilla.com ). Huggle will also do automatic reporting, yes. xenocidic (talk) 20:13, 6 June 2008 (UTC)
Okay, I will try one or the other. I was interested in helping the anti-vandal effort -- I am sort of burned out on writing, editing and AfD at the moment. Thanks Ecoleetage (talk) 20:14, 6 June 2008 (UTC)

You are an admin and know what's going on. I'll just let it go. The jargon thing on the page should be enough so it doesn't really need to be deleted I guess. Regards --Npnunda (talk) 00:02, 7 June 2008 (UTC)

Well after I checked out your link, I decided to nominate them after all. Hopefully at the very least I can learn a little more about how the WP:AFD process works. I'm not "out to get the article deleted" as much as I want it to sound more like it is from a encyclopedia and less from a workers manual. I'll keep it all in good faith. Thanks!! --Npnunda (talk) 00:35, 7 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Move page over redirect?

I found this page and noticed it had been moved ages ago to a random name. Would you move it back? Thanks. Thingg 02:20, 7 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Vandalism block request for Orielense

I am still learning, so please explain. How best to proceed with this issue? I and others have attempted to contact in every way, and user is non-responsive. How is removal of neutral verified content a content dispute and not vandalism, particularly when user has used various IPs, used the minor edit label, and has not responded to communications? Zoticogrillo (talk) 03:53, 7 June 2008 (UTC)

I have blocked Orielense for 24 hours for violation of 3RR. Useight (talk) 04:06, 7 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] User:927 / User 927

Do you think the soft redirect might be a better idea? If someone made the mistake once it's possible it could happen again. xenocidic (talk) 15:10, 7 June 2008 (UTC)

I'm not sure. The problem is that it's not like a regular misspelled-subject redirect. This is a redirection from a page reserved for a user. It's complicated by the fact (that I learned only after my work) that Wikipedia user "927" was the person who created the article, and who only edited for a couple of weeks before disappearing. We have no way to know whether this person was the "User 927" spoken of, or (much more likely in my opinion) just a new Wikipedian who was trying to write an article on the subject, didn't understand the basics of MediaWiki (suggested by the partial, erratic use of wiki markup) and the Wikimedia project structure, and accidentally created a user page where an article was intended.
Having a user page point to an article page causes all kinds of peculiarities with the MediaWiki software. For instance, one can go to User:927 and check "User contributions" in an attempt to see what the infamous "User 927" has contributed to Wikipedia, and the fact that the actual Wikipedia user "927" wrote this original article would lend support to this idea. But it's almost certainly wrong and therefore very misleading.
After trying to convey this point in writing and finding these distinctions between subject and editor difficult to make clear, I think my original idea is reinforced. If we don't delete the redirect, we'll just encourage people to make an unsubstantiated leap of illogic. ~ Jeff Q (talk) 20:21, 7 June 2008 (UTC)
