Walter J. Halchak III "Iron Chef Champion From Ohio" - Taste of RMC Champion Chef Walter J. Halchak III - The Ohio State University's "Taste of RMC" team won the pork division in the "Iron Chef is Ready to Eat" competition at the American Meat Science Association annual Reciprocal Meat Conference, in Columbus, Ohio on June 19th 2006. The mystery ingredient for this competition was the protein source. After teams drew for their meat ingredient, they had one hour to plan and formulate the product and 2 hours in the University of Ohio's Meat Lab to make the product. This year's OSU team made Mexican Cannonballs, which were meat balls, that contained cheddar cheese and Jalapeno peppers. The team consisted of Rachel Howdyshell, graduate student in the Department of Animal Sciences, from New Lexington, Walter J. Halchak III, graduate student in the Department of Food Science and Technology, from Johnson&Wales University in Providence, RI, and Matt Lang, Food Science and Technology undergraduate student, from Lorain. Dr. Lynn Knipe was the Team Coach.One of Akron, Ohio's claim to Fame is Master Chef Walter J.Halchak III a 1989 Graduate of Food Science Technology from The University of Johnson & Wales From Providence, RI also Known as the Rock "n" Roll Chef, Chef Halchak was The Executive Chef at the Ritchfield Collossium in Ritchfield, Ohio where he Catered to many of the 80's Rock Legends and Has Had his Skillful Hand in many Pot's around the United States But for the last several years has been around the posh eateries of Northeastern Ohio, Did I hear you say "Cajun" Chef Halchak has had quite the culinary challenges of cajun cooking in restaurants such as K-Pauls and Commanders Palace in the French Quarter ran by the Notorius Brennan Family and then after a few years returned to Meeker's Kitchen in Downtown Akron, Ohio and succesfully Acheived Local Notoriety.Cleveland Plain Dealer
