[edit] History
Xavier was started 61 years ago by the Founding Sisters of Charity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, and had 17 pioneer students. Today, Xavier has had over 7,500 students graduate and currently enrolls about 1,200 students. Students may also take classes, such as Latin, Music Theory, Music Appretiation, TV and Radio, Band, Orchestra, and much more, from Brophy College Preparatory, the all-boys Jesuit high school that is adjacent to Xavier.
[edit] Curriculum
The curriculum at Xavier is a traditional, rigorous and challenging college prep program. Honors classes are available in all areas of study, and AP Classes are also an integral part of the curriculum. All Seniors take the AP Literature exam, and 429 students took 849 exams in the spring of 2003. Some students graduate with up to two years of college credit already completed. Students wear a uniform.
Xavier students consistently score in the top percentiles of standardized tests. Over the past 10 years, the School has congratulated 82 National Merit Finalists, 143 Commended Scholars, 36 National Hispanic Scholars, 5 National Black American Scholars. Xavier students have been designated Presidential Scholars in 1979, 1986, 1990, and 2001, as well as Presidential Scholar Semi-Finalists in 1975 and 1993 and a Flinn Scholar in 2004. In 2005, a national Catholic publication named Xavier as among the top five Catholic high schools in the nation.
In addition to a strong academic focus, XCP has an excellent athletic program with numerous state championships to its credit.
