[edit] Raw data of image
Greetings Xanthine! Can you provide me with the raw data you used to create this image http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Island-of-Stability.png? Thanks! 81.70.212.33 10:33, 16 October 2006 (UTC)
- Sorry, do you mean the actual empirical data used to draw out the graph, or the vector image data? I notice the tag requesting an SVG version, which would be no problem for me to take care of... --Xanthine 10:50, 17 October 2006 (UTC)
- Ok, .svgz file created. It's about 10 times the filesize, and took a little adjustment (seeing as SVG doesn't support transparent objects). My apologies - I'm afraid I seem to have, rather embarrassingly, discarded all data files I used in the original creation of this image, though I'm fairly sure I acquired them all though Google. --Xanthine 11:38, 17 October 2006 (UTC)
- Aha... On attempting to upload this, I've found that Wikipedia doesn't accept .svgz files. The uncompressed .svg file is almost 2 megabytes in size, which seems highly impractical to me. Leaving this as a .png file for now. --Xanthine 11:53, 17 October 2006 (UTC)

- The image looks very neat, may I ask with what program you created it? Too bad you lost the original data, but the graph seems to be accurate. A very fine addition to the article indeed! Thanks for your effort :) Albester 22:13, 17 October 2006 (UTC)

- You're very welcome. :) The image was created entirely using Adobe Illustrator CS, and plenty of attention to detail. And thanks, I'm glad you like it! --Xanthine 10:30, 18 October 2006 (UTC)

Would you mind uploading the SVG? Mediawiki renders to PNG so file sizes don't impact viewing experience. Cburnett 18:20, 15 July 2007 (UTC)
- Oh, ok, certainly. I'll need to look for it a little later, as the files is in one of my archives now. --Xanthine 11:43, 17 July 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Image use
Dunno if you were aware or not, but LLNL used your island of stability image (credited to you of course) in one of their press releases about element 118: http://www.llnl.gov/pao/news/news_releases/2006/NR-06-10-03.html
I'd think kudos are in order, that seems like an important place to be recognized! Canonymous 23:49, 18 October 2006 (UTC)
- Wow! I didn't know that, thank you very much for telling me! :) --Xanthine 08:56, 19 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Atmosphere of Venus
Hi there, thanks for the interesting edit on the atmosphere of Venus article. I first created it to see it go on the did you know section and then wanted to promote it to FA status but stopped in the middle due to a lack of resources. Do you think it could be done? It would be great if we could get together a team of about four or so people that could work on the article so that we can see it on the front page. I live in Korea so the only English-language resources I have are online. Mithridates 10:59, 2 January 2007 (UTC)
- You're very welcome. It's one subject that I like to read about in my spare time... I'f you're putting together a team, I'd be happy to get involved. :) --Xanthine 10:30, 3 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Are history illustrations also your case?
Roman-Spartan War has three external images below the infobox. However, it would look better if these could be replaced by illustrations (to keep it simple: black and white, not color). There is some information written to the external images and I can provide you with more fom Osprey and other illustrated books on the era. Would you be interested? (Please answer at my talk page) Wandalstouring 21:41, 23 January 2007 (UTC)
- It's going to be one of our featured articles (passed, GA, A-class review and is on FAC). Perhaps we discuss this matter a bit when you have more time, so the illustrations can also be used other articles (one good illustration tends to rule the world on a respective subject). - Indeed, I never turn down a chance for good publicity. :)
- Give me till next week, and I should have some more time to look at it properly. --Xanthine 23:57, 29 January 2007 (UTC)
Some background info. So far I did some research on the possible equipment of the Spartan army. They were heavily influenced by the traditional Greek mercenary forces (heavy units are armored lighter and lighter units heavier) and by the Doric Cretan warfare that put an emphasis on mobile missile warfare. In the Cretan fighting style the richest (or the chosen warriors) could afford an expensive horn bow and üprobably protective equipment such as very simple bronze helmets (looks like a bowl without cheek pieces) and some possibly scale armor, but that was most likely to be found among high ranking officers and their bodyguards. The simple Cretan soldier had a small buckler(with a wooden shield[50-70cm] and a small iron/bronze protection for the hand, similar to a small Viking shield/not a pelta or bronze plated pelta-like shield) and attacked with missile weapons such as light javelins(that had little effect on the Romans) and some slings (it is difficult to concentrate slingers, but mix them with other skirmishers). Slings can be with a stick and a sling for greater power and heavier projectiles or with the index and middle finger only for precise fire of lead bullets. The precise shooters were usually in the front while the heavy artillery slinger were in the back. The aforementioned buckler is important because it gives the ability to attack in close combat and wage a mobile war against the Romans (possibly influence by Iberian mercenaries, is generally mentioned for Cretan units and is the only type of units with light shields that are reported by Livy to have troubled the Romans in close combat if they had enough space). The light missile troops are the backbone of the army because their equipment is relatively cheap and the training simple. Such a fighting style is generally reported to have been supplemented with a heavier fighting spear. Their alternative equipment were long lances, sarissa. Depending on the kind of combat they would face they could switch arms(for Alexander's phalangites it is also reported that they could fight with spear and javalins/long lance depending on the circumstances and terrain). The ceapest and most widespread armor was leather clothing(also everyday clothing of poor people, in Lacedaemonia made from dogskin, the Helots had to wear dogskin hats for example.) and padded clothing (a thin gambeson leaving the legs and arms exposed). While helmets were not universally worn leather hats or broad rimmed hats were the alternative. Most helmets were simple bronze cups, more elaborate versions had some face protection (the image of the Greek phalanx in the article shows the highest quality of equipment). Very important is the use of short swords, the sources on the Spartans and Cretans all agree that these had been introduced some time prior to Nabis. If you have any questions please contact me. I can also provide you with the exact sources who mentioned what were. Wandalstouring 18:17, 7 February 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Island of stability
I do dare believe your proton numbers on your illustration of the aforementioned article are off by at least 10. Fix? (or explain why it is so, if I am mistaken?)--Zinc2005 06:10, 10 November 2007 (UTC)
I think you can safely upload this as SVG, wikipedia can handle my 3.5 megabyte SVG too: Image:Diagram9.svg --Acdx 22:39, 26 February 2008 (UTC)
