WZON (620 AM) is a radio station broadcasting a Sports radio format. Licensed to Bangor, Maine, USA, the station serves the Bangor area. The station is currently owned by The Zone Corporation and features programing from ABC Radio , ESPN Radio and Sporting News Radio.[2]It is owned by Stephen King.[citation needed]
[edit] History
Throughout the 1970s and 1980s WZON was known as WLBZ "Z62" Bangor's top 40 station but changed to talk radio (and was the first affiliate in Bangor to carry Rush Limbaugh) When station management went bankrupt and sold, King bought the station (along with 100.3 WKIT) and changed the format to sports.
[edit] Programming
Currently WZON airs ESPN Radio and Boston Red Sox baseball. The station also airs local morning and afternoon shows as well as Boston Celtics basketball and select programming from Westwood One. WZON was also the long-time home of University of Maine sports until the Summer of 2007 when the rights were given to WVOM and WGUY. They also have an internet only station, that carries overfill sporting events when WZON has prior event commitments (such as Boston Red Sox games).
