WZLY, the Wellesley College student FM radio station, is the longest-running independent women's radio station in the United States.[citation needed]
WZLY broadcasts on 91.5 megahertz at 10 watts. It also broadcasts an audio stream over the internet.
The station is a student organization of Wellesley College.
WZLY encourages all its station members to play material which receives little airplay from commercial radio stations, such as independent music.[citation needed]
The station was established on April 20, 1942, as WBS 730 AM. Early programming included radio plays, Porgy and Bess, a quiz show and the news.
