WZJO-FM / Z Rock 94-5 is Charleston's only Alternative Rock radio station. In fact Z Rock 94-5 is West Virginia's only Alternative Rock radio station. Z Rock made it's debut in 2003. Before that, WZJO was an Urban Oldies station. As you can see the last two call letters of the callsign stand for Jammin Oldies. The station is owned by Bristol Broadcasting Company, with a "twin station" in Elizabethton, Tennessee named "Z Rock-99-3", also owned by Bristol Broadcasting. According to Bristol Broadcasting, the station posts strong numbers with 18 to 35 year old men. WZJO shares a tower with WBES-AM in Dunbar. The station has a "Z-ROCK Babe" contest held every month.
