Wynanne Downer

Wynanne Downer (1947 - 29 July 2007) was a politician of the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador.
She was born Winnifred Anne Shea in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador. After living in Stephenville Crossing during her childhood, she graduated from Littledale College and the Memorial University of Newfoundland after which she became a teacher. During the 1990s, she earned a Masters degree at St. Francis Xavier University then a PhD at the University of Toronto.
On July 28, 2004, Downer ran for the Canadian House of Commons, representing the Conservative Party of Canada in Humber—St. Barbe—Baie Verte, but lost to Gerry Byrne of the Liberal Party of Canada. Downer received 6,538 votes to Byrne's 17,820. Wynanne Downer sat on the Corner Brook, Newfoundland, Canada City Council following a local election there 27 September 2005.
Downer died of cancer in July 2007.
