WYBS

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

WYBS FM was a pirate radio station operating in Hartford, Connecticut from 1972 through 1976. Broadcast with a Korean War surplus radio transmitter with 40 watts of power, WYBS utilized a number of frequencies over the years, including 88.9 and 92.1 MHz. The broadcasting schedule from noon to midnight seven days a week was unheard of for a pirate station and the format of jazz, classical and alternative rock music attracted a surprising number of listeners.

The owners and operators of WYBS were involved with a pirate radio station that could arguably be said to have had the largest audience in history of any pirate station, Concert Free Radio which operated from the Summer Jam at Watkins Glen.
