WYBR (102.3 FM, "Today's Hit Music, Y-102") is a radio station in Big Rapids, Michigan, broadcasting a hot adult contemporary format.
102.3 FM has featured some kind of pop music format throughout its history. The station originally signed on circa 1981 as WAAQ The Music Machine-Q102, with an adult contemporary format designed by and featuring consultant and radio personality Steve Masters (mornings). In 1992 after the station was sold WAAQ became WPZX, a CHR/Top 40 station known as "Power 102." Then when the station was sold again and WPZX became "Y102" in 1994, it originally used a satellite-delivered Hot AC format from ABC Radio known as "The Best Hits, The Best Variety" (now "Today's Best Hits"). The satellite format was dropped in 1999, and the station continued with the Hot AC format but with an air staff in the morning and precoreded DJ's for daytime and automation overnights.
The current WYBR air staff includes Brian Goodenow, who was previously fired by Steve Masters in Cadillac (mornings), Dean Armstrong (afternoon drive), and Paul Matthews (evenings). Specialty programming includes "The '80s Lunch Hour" weekdays at noon and "The Top Five at Five" weekdays at 5 p.m. Weekend specialty shows include both the '80s and '90s versions of Back Trax USA with Kid Kelly, the Hot AC version of Rick Dees' Weekly Top 40, Saturday Night '80s with Archer, 12-Inch Retro Mix with Todd Baker, and SonRise (contemporary Christian music) on Sunday mornings. Y102 formerly aired John Garabedian's Open House Party on Saturday and Sunday nights before replacing it with the 80's-based shows it now airs in those time slots.
WYBR formerly rebroadcast on translator W299BE on 107.7 FM in Big Rapids. However, owner Mentor Partners has opted to switch W299BE to a simulcast of news/talk/sports sister station WBRN-AM 1460.
