[edit] History of 610 WVBE-AM

WVBE 610 was for many years Country WSLC. The station began simulcasting 94.9 WSLC when it flipped from Classic Rock as WPVR in the late 1990's. This continued until 2002, when the station was flipped to WVBE, to bring R&B music to Roanoke. http://www.formatchange.com/610-wslc-drops-its-simulcast-of-sister-country-wslc-fm-for-urban-ac-wvbe-fm/

[edit] History of 100.1 WVBE-FM

WVBE-FM 100.1 began its history sometime between 1950 and 1958 as WWOD-FM. It had a sister station on 1390, now WKPA. It probably had several formats, though only a religious format can be confirmed. The station became WKZZ in 1979.

In 1991, the station was paired with WXLK in Roanoke to provide an improved signal in Lynchburg and took the callsign WLYK, which stood for "Lynchburg's K92." The following year, WLYK boosted power, going from a Class A to Class C3 station.

In 2001, the station became Vibe 100, with an R&B format, changing calls to WVBE-FM.
