WUGN is a non-commercial Christian FM radio station in Midland, Michigan, operating on 99.7 MHz. The station broadcasts with 100,000 watts from a 997 foot tower giving it a strong signal throughout the middle of the mitten of Michigan.
The station began broadcasting in the early 1970's as the third station owned and operated by Family Life Communications (commonly referred to as FLR or Family Life Radio). Unlike the other 11 full-power stations in the network, most of WUGN's programs are locally produced. It also plays a more contemporary mix of Christian music.
In 1999, WUGN won the Marconi Christian station of the year.
Historical note: from 1961 to 1970, 99.7 MHz was Midland's first FM radio station as WQDC. WQDC'S studios were on Main Street in downtown Midland. It is unknown if today's WUGN operates on WQDC's original license, or if a separate one was issued for WUGN as an entirely-new station.
