Welcome!

Welcome to Wikipedia, WTHarvey! My name is Ryan, aka Acetic Acid. I noticed that you were new and haven't received any messages yet. I just wanted to see how you were doing. Wikipedia can be a little intimidating at first, since it uses different formatting than other sites that use HTML and CSS. In the long run, though, you'll find that the WikiSyntax is a lot easier and faster than those other ways. Here are a few links to get you started:

There are a lot of policies and guides to read, but I highly recommend reading over those first. If you have any questions, feel free to leave me a message on my talk page. Please be sure to sign your name on Talk Pages using four tildes (~~~~) to produce your name and the current date, along with a link to your user page. This way, others know when you left a message and how to find you. It's easier than having to type out your name, right? :)

I hope you enjoy contributing to Wikipedia. We can use all the help we can get! Have a nice day. Sincerely, Ryan 01:11, August 5, 2005 (UTC)

Thank you very much for adding positions from the Eric Schiller games. Can you possibly to the same thing for Tom Dorsch? He does not have as many published games as Eric Schiller, but he does have a few. Good. Thank you so very, very much !!!! Just to inform you about Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/B50 (chess opening) and Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/QGD; Semi-Slav 5.Bg5 dxc4 - you should know this, I think. Greetings --Ioannes Pragensis 10:02, 22 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Spamming

Please do not add inappropriate external links to Wikipedia. Wikipedia is not a mere directory of links nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. Inappropriate links include (but are not limited to) links to personal web sites, links to web sites with which you are affiliated, and links that exist to attract visitors to a web site or promote a product. See the external links guideline and spam policies for further explanations of links that are considered appropriate. If you feel the link should be added to the article, then please discuss it on the article's talk page rather than re-adding it. See the welcome page to learn more about Wikipedia. Thank you. [edit] Spamming - second warning

Please stop adding inappropriate external links to Wikipedia. It is considered spamming, and Wikipedia is not a vehicle for advertising. Thanks. --Ioannes Pragensis 20:24, 24 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Third warning

Please stop. If you continue spamming you will be blocked from editing.

Regarding your question, read WP:COI and WP:EL. --Ioannes Pragensis 15:42, 25 December 2006 (UTC)

I disagree. Mr. Harvey makes an important contribution to Wikipedia by providing directories of games played by famous chess grandmasters. I do not see how this can be called spamming. Sam Sloan 16:03, 25 December 2006 (UTC)

These are not directories of games, but chess puzzles taken from the games. For external lists of games we use mostly the Chessgames template. May be it is useful in the article about chess tactics, but in the biographies of players it has only limited encyclopedic value, I think. Greetings,--Ioannes Pragensis 22:51, 27 December 2006 (UTC)
A good portion of these links to my website are added by patrons who visited my website in the first place. I have alerted visitors to my website of the policy at the English Wikipedia.
