WSYA (1490 AM, "Sunny 104.3") is a radio station that will soon be broadcasting a Soft Adult Contemporary music format.[2] Licensed to Anniston, Alabama, USA, the station serves the Anniston-Oxford Metropolitan Area. The station is currently owned by Jacobs Broadcast Group, Inc.[3]
[edit] History
In May 2008, the station announced it would change its call letters to WSYA and that by the end of May it would be broadcasting a Soft Adult Contemporary music format, simulcast on an FM translator in Anniston.[4] The station was assigned the WSYA call letters by the Federal Communications Commission on May 23, 2008.[1] Until the format and callsign change, the station had been sports radio formatted WANA, known on-air as "Sports Radio 1490 The Ticket"
The station is unusual in that very few AM radio stations in the US are permitted to rebroadcast their programming on an FM translator. WSYA is especially unusual in that announced on-air branding as "Sunny 104.3" derives from the 104.3 FM frequency of the translator, not the primary radio station at 1490 AM.
The station gets its call letters and branding from WMXS in Montgomery, Alabama, which used the WSYA call letters and was known as "Sunny 103" from 1987 to 1994.
