WSUM (91.7 MHz FM) is a student radio station in Madison, Wisconsin, affiliated with the University of Wisconsin-Madison. The station schedule consists of a wide range of music and talk programming servicing the campus and Madison community.

The radio station began when Dave Black, a journalism graduate student at the university, approached former chair of the UW-Madison School of Journalism to start a student radio station. After beginning internet broadcasting in 1996, Black sought to expand the radio station to the airwaves. The FCC specified that a radio tower could be built in the town of Montrose in southern Dane County. The the citizens of Montrose were opposed to the idea of student radio, calling it an "electronic sandbox." After a lengthy legal battle, the tower was constructed in 2001 and terrestrial broadcasting of WSUM began on February 22, 2002, at 2:22 PM.

Programming on WSUM consits of a variety of music and talk shows, including but not limited to indie rock, funk, house music, folk, video game music, and community affairs, and recently a show that features live Dungeons & Dragons play on the air.

Each year, WSUM puts together a free music festival that is funded through donations and fundraising events. Originally known as Party in the Park and held in James Madison Park, the festival drew bands such as The White Stripes, Andrew WK, …And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead, and many other bands, especially local bands. In 2007 the festival was moved to the Union terrace and renamed "Snake on the Lake Fest."
