WSFJ-TV ("GTN 51") is an independent Christian Themed commercial television station in Columbus, Ohio. It broadcasts locally on channel 51, as well as nationally via Sky Angel. The station presents a variety of Christian programming during the mornings, off network reruns of family type shows (like Quincy, M.E., The Brady Bunch and Family Ties) in the afternoons and prime-time, plus infomercials and shopping on overnights. It was an ION Television affiliate (formerly PAX and i) until 2007. Their local offices are located at the South District of Easton.

At one point, WSFJ operated a translator in Columbus, WCPX-LP channel 48, but it was sold in 2007 and became an Azteca América affiliate in January 2008. WSFJ is the largest ION affiliate owned by a company other than ION Media Networks, ION Television's parent company.

[edit] History

WSFJ Channel 51 began operations on March 9, 1980. The station was licensed to Newark, Ohio. While the station was the first independent non network television station in Columbus, Ohio, the station ran only Christian programs 24 hours a day and seven days a week. The shows included PTL Club, Jimmy Swaggart, 700 Club, Another Life, Richard Roberts, and many others. The station also ran children's Christian programs as well. By the Fall of 1980, WSFJ began running Independent Network News and New Zoo Revue during the week, and Wild Kingdom, along with some hunting and wildlife shows on Saturdays. Other that that, WSFJ continued to be a Christian television station. In the Mid 1990's The Christian Television Network bought the station and continued the Christian format. In the fall of 1998, the station affiliated with Pax TV running the programming from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and again from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m.

WSFJ was sold to "Guardian Enterprise Group" in 2004. In 2005, WSFJ began to acquire some family programming separate from its affiliation with ION. This group of programming was known as "Guardian Television Network". Guardian Enterprise Group is located in the same office as WSFJ. Other companies under the Guardian Enterprise Group include Guardian Studios, and Guardian Human Resources.

In March of 2007 GTN51 moved its Master Control and Studio into the Easton location which generates the content that is sent to their new digital transmission facility in Pataskala, off of SR 161.

That year, WSFJ launched its digital station on Channel 24. Its main Channel dropped ION Television in 2008 and now runs family entertainment, religious shows, and paid programming.
