Wrottesley Hall

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Wrottesley Hall is a Victorian mansion house situated near Tettenhall, Staffordshire which has been subdivided into thre separate private residences. It is a Grade II listed building.

The manor was held by the Wrottesley family from the 13th century. For the family history see Baron Wrottesley.

A moated Tudor house which stood on the site was replaced possibly about 1689 with a substantial four storeyed mansion, comprising a pedimented central entrance block of three bays and flanking wings of four bays each, standing in a 2000 acre park.

The house was destroyed by fire in 1897 and was replaced with the present structure of more modest proportions, comprising a two storey pedimented three bay central block and single storey four bay wings. The pediment carries the Wrottesley family arms.

The estate was broken up when the 5th Baron sold in 1963 and moved to South Africa. The house and the adjacent Grade II listed coach house were redeveloped as residential units.
