Wremja was an influential Estonian sitcom showing the lives of lower class people. It features campy humor, both intentionally, and to keep the budget low. Wremja was preceded by "Wigla show" featuring similar style, and later changed the name to "Sipelga 14" as a reference to the Estonian soap opera "Õnne 13".
[edit] Characters
Nisu Unn/Grain Uno (Dan Põldroos) - alcoholic WWII veteran who fought on German side and burned Hitler's corpse while drunk back in 1945. Has a trademark red coat and ugly moustache. Drinks everything with alcohol in it, including cologne and perfumes.
Zorro (Jan Uuspõld) - Uno's roommate after kicking out Uno's family and also his bathtub. Devoted communist who worked as torturer, spy and astronaut for Soviet government. Perverted old man, who wears a beret and two pairs of glasses.
Laar - Women's hairdresser and friend of Zorro and Uno. He is very peaceful, even to the point of being a sissy, but also very interested in Nazism. Constantly harassed by his mother-in-law. Very loosely based on Estonian politician and ex-prime minister Mart Laar.
Ämm/The Mother-in-Law (Dan Põldroos) - Ugly, perverted and sadistic old lady who, after coming to live with her daughter, Maie, harasses his son-in-law, Laar. Is almost always horny and constantly eats some yoghurt or soup from a bowl.
Rullnokad/Rollnoses (Jan Uuspõld/Dan Põldroos) - Local youngsters working in the car trash. Their intellect is extremely low and they love visiting the local nightclubs with their slut girlfriends. Sometimes they make money with small time robbing. Losers.
Dr. Liiv/Dr. Sand (Martin Padar) - Prominent psychiatrist and village elder of Haabersti. Though professionally talented, he is extremely corrupt and likes going to bordellos and drinking moonshine with Zorro, Uno and Laar.
Koomik Eintz/Heinz the Comedian (Dan Põldroos) - Old school comedian who quotes Arkadi Raikin and wears winter clothing even during summer. Talks with a horrible rasp in his voice. Loosely based on Estonian comedian Eino Baskin.
Viki King/Vicky Shoe (Jan Uuspõld) - Television figure and a former classmate of Uno the Grain. When he meets Uno they always get terribly drunk and then Vicky goes to make a show while sometimes puking live on air. Very happy about his life, but Uno has a tendency to guide him to alcoholism.
Feeliks Raudjalg/Felix Ironfoot (Dan Põldroos) - A local molester of women who fakes that he is crippled. He pretends to be a proud Estonian freedom fighter while he really was a spy for the KGB. Enemy of Zorro, who thinks Ironfoot betrayed Stalin.
Mürka perse/Ass of Martin Müürsepp (Jan Uuspõld) - Ass of renowned Estonian basketball star Martin Müürsepp, who tends to have a life of its own and who sometimes escaped from its owner. When he created havoc in Haabersti, Dr. Sand asked Zorro to chase him down.
Inspektor Kukeke/Inspector Rooster (Dan Põldroos) - Corrupted, incompetent policeman. Gets information on crimes from the TV, because "newspapers are too expensive".
