WPRV (790 AM) is a radio station located in Providence, Rhode Island. The station is owned by Citadel Broadcasting Corporation, and airs an oldies format. The station goes by the name "True Oldies 790".

WPRV was originally WEAN, Rhode Island's first radio station (those call letters now belong to a sister FM station). The station previously broadcast a sports format as WSKO ("The Score"), airing local and national sports programming (including ESPN Radio programs), with most programs simulcast with WSKO-FM/99.7 (which was replaced by WEAN-FM, an FM simulcast of WPRO); this format was dropped in March 2008. The previous format which started in March of 1999 was initially a hit in the ratings. However the ratings dropped after a host was arrested and charged after he was alleged to solict a prostitute, two other hosts decided to amend the morning format to a bathroom humour one and Boston heavyweight station WEEI acquired a Rhode Island signal. The Score quickly went from a solid 1.7 rating to a 0.25 within months. Although Opie & Anthony were added, the ratings did not improve.

[edit] Programming

Current programming includes Imus in the Morning on mornings, with the rest of the day taken up by ABC Radio's The True Oldies Channel service. It also serves as the Providence affiliate for New York Yankees baseball as well as Brown University Football and Men's Basketball.
