[edit] Deprecated template

This template is considered deprecated and should no longer be used to identify articles. It's not worth replacing this template with the replacement template--fix the actual articles instead by expanding, merging, or deleting them.

The replacement template that should be used in future cases is:

{{WPMIX|class=MergeDel}}

Once all the linked articles are fixed (expanded, merged, or deleted), then this template should be deleted.

[edit] Purpose

This template is for use in identifying substandard articles and warning visitors of the article's status. In this situation, the Mixed Drinks WikiProject considers an article to be substandard when identified by a Project Participant or other editor as having little or no useful information that stands on its own. Articles that contain nothing except simple recipes to make the drinks are considered to be substandard.

Our WikiProject is in the process of converting to a much more flexible and standardized way of identifying such articles in the future. For more information, please visit the Assessment Department.

[edit] Usage

Anyone may identify an article as substandard. Doing so helps the Project members locate and process these articles. This template is most useful for Project participants to organize and prioritize their work. If you use this template frequently, consider becoming a Project participant.

To use this template, enter {{WPMIXMergeDelete}} at the top of the talk or discussion page associated with the article identified as substandard.

Do not subst: this tag. This template is updated based on the current needs the Mixed Drinks WikiProject special projects. For that reason, the tag needs to remain dynamically generated, not substituted.

[edit] Resulting actions

Tagging an article as substandard should initiate the following actions (preferably by you immediately following the tagging of the article):

  • Recipe information should be trans-wikied to Wikibooks.
  • A link to the specific corresponding Wikibooks article should be added to the List of cocktails or other related list; replace the link in the list to the existing article with the new Wikibooks article if applicable.
  • Essential ingredients (not a detailed recipe) should be added to the chosen list.
  • Briefly note at the top of the article's talk page the steps that have been taken, and indicate that the page is ready for redirection.
  • Substitute the word example in the following line with the appropriate subsection in the chosen list. Substitute the entire link if the article has been moved to some other location entirely with the new location. The point is to redirect the reader as near as possible to the exact location where the new information is located.
  • Replace the contents of the entire article with:  #REDIRECT[[List of cocktails#Cocktails with example]]{{R to list entry}}
  • A different {{R}} template may be more appropriate than {{R to list entry}} if redirecting to somewhere other than a list. See the list of redirect templates for other options.

[edit] Example

This article was reviewed by a WikiProject Mixed Drinks Participant or other editor and is queued for removal after all usable information has been included in the List of cocktails (or a related list), integrated with another article, or copied to Wikibooks. Nominating this page for deletion through any other method only complicates the Project's standard procedures for dealing with substandard articles like this. To phrase it another way, unless somebody makes major improvements making the article worthy of reevaluation, it will be turned into a redirect just as soon as a Project member (or anyone else who wants to help) finishes processing this article as discussed in the Project's resulting actions guidelines.
Do not remove this tag. If you disagree with the classification of this article as a micro-stub, locate the {{WPMIXMergeDelete}} tag near the top of this page and replace it with {{WPMIXMergeDelete|disputed=yes}}. Then clearly explain your reasons below is a section titled "Disputed Removal". Focus on the notability of the article's topic and include references to reliable sources to support your statements.
Why redirect instead of delete? It is important to preserve the edit history of this article for GFDL compliance, since some usable information is likely to be retained. Deleting removes access to that information.
