My recent RfB

Thank you so much for your participation in my recent RfB. Though it closed with 72% support (below the required 90%), I'm still quite pleased at the outpouring of support shown by a fair percentage of the community.

I'm currently tabulating and calculating all opposing and neutral arguments to help me better address the community's concerns about my abilities as a bureaucrat. If you'd like, you can follow my progress (and/or provide additional suggestions) at User:EVula/admin/RfB notes. Thanks again! EVula // talk // // 04:41, 3 July 2007 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:42nd_district_title_thumb.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:42nd_district_title_thumb.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. MER-C 06:22, 7 July 2007 (UTC)

Re: Encouragement

Thanks for your words of encouragement! I'm doing well, the absence of smoky pubs in the UK is making a big difference. Cheers,  LewPot  talk 21:55, 11 July 2007 (UTC)

Tom

My only concern is that none of the sources you provided factually say that they lived there, and at least one has denial from the Cruise camp. I don't doubt that they lived there, but the sources say other than what the article says. Take a close look, tell me what you think. Cheers, --wpktsfs 22:08, 14 July 2007 (UTC)

I have a source saying they actually lived here for a fact: The Village Voice of Ottawa Hills, the Ottawa Hills newspaper that every residents gets for free. However, it's not an online source, obviously, so there's no way for anyone to verify it, really, unless they know someone who lives here and can read it. Should I just use that?  hmwith  talk 14:41, 15 July 2007 (UTC)
Yes, use the Village Voice, I think that would be the most trusted source. --wpktsfs 16:45, 16 July 2007 (UTC)
Done. When I find it somewhere in my house, and find out which issue it was (the date), I'll add that. Thanks for the heads up and advice.  hmwith  talk 21:46, 16 July 2007 (UTC)

need more clarification for boundaries for school additions

Hi, I have done several edits for Maumee Valley Country Day School in which I tried to speak more about programs that the school offered, the college guidance program, plus examples of courses offered through the school's unique Winterim program. I cited all of my sources. I understand the Schoolcruft concept and I'm sure some things I wrote may have crossed the line. But I modeled my entries after those for other top prep schools such as Marlborough School in Los Angeles and Ethical Culture Fieldston School in New York City, which have several instances that, in my opinion, repeatedly cross these same boundaries, without any sort of consequences. Thanks. Kellyharrison 19:58, 19 July 2007 (UTC)

Hi Kelly, and thank you for contacting me. I am sorry that I have not responded until now. You mention other schools that describe programs in depth. Wikipedia currently has 1,891,304 articles in the English language alone. Many of those articles could be improved. Moreover, many of those articles can be cut back on as well. Take a look at this difference here. As you can see, with one edit, almost more than half the article was removed. Unfortunately, in this case, many articles will continue to have schoolcruft, even though others suffer. In your case, I requested that another editor clean out Marlborough School (Los Angeles, California) for schoolcruft. Thank you for being understanding of this guideline. As always, if you have any questions, please contact me on my talk page. Wishes, --wpktsfs 20:46, 19 July 2007 (UTC)

Replaceable fair use Image:Universityparkstrailmap.jpg

Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Universityparkstrailmap.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that fair use images which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 7 days after this notification, per our Fair Use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. – Quadell (talk) (random) 23:32, 15 July 2007 (UTC)

Please speedy the image Image:Universityparkstrailmap.jpg, whereas, after review, I think that I might be able to create a free-image in this case. Thanks, --wpktsfs 17:19, 16 July 2007 (UTC)

Watching IPs

Honestly, I haven't the time to watch IPs or users over longish periods of time. I just revert vandalism, report it, and if it was their last warning before, I post them on AIV. Perhaps someone else could? All the best! --Theunicyclegirl 21:39, 18 July 2007 (UTC)
