The station went on the air as WNUY on 1984-09-18. On 1986-05-01, the station changed it's call sign to the current WPGS. Today, The station is now the flagship to Talkstar Radio Network which features a The X-Zone with Rob McConnell,Dr Gabe Mirkin,The Big Moe Show and Other Feature Exclusive Shows on the weekends such as the national show: Your Health Comes First with Ed Shiflett & Certified Nutritionist, Linda Garrison.

Talkstar840 also Lets the Music do the talking on the weekends with another exclusive on Sunday Afternoons Featuring a Three hour commercial free, live 1950s Early 60s Music Hosted by DJ Earl called the Bobbysoxers, Tailfins & Doowop Show On Sunday Afternoons from 1 to 4pm EST. and encore performance 8pm est to 11pm est.
