Goh Wee Pheng, born in Singapore on 30 Mar 1958, is a Chinese name. The name is an interpretation from the Teochew pronunciation of the chinese character 伟 (meaning great) and 平 (meaning peace). This is the wish of his parents when creating this name for him, wishing that he has plenty of peace throughout his life.

The first five years he was with his parents' residence in the city. At six years old, due to his father's vegetables distribution business in the western district of Singaqpore, the family moved to Jurong and stayed there till 1982 when he was 24.

He was enlisted in Singapore Arm Force on 19 Oct 1978 and completed on 18 Apr 1981. Immediately, he was in Yokohama, Japan for a year of computer training under the Association of Technical Scholarship with Softnet Incorporated as the sponsoring company. During that time, the chairman of the company gave him an introduction letter to enable him to take up his first job at NEC Singapore Pte Ltd. This job end up is his first and last job as a full time paid employee. In 1993, he started Glory Employment Agency Pte Ltd dealing with recruitment of professionals from China and Philippines as well as Domestic workers from Myanmar, Philippines and Indonesia. His other directors are Ng Chee Hua and Richard Peh.
