Drivers from across Manchester are invited to take part in an event this month that could help them be safer motorists.
The Oldham-based West Pennine Group of Advanced Motorists are holding a special all day event to mark their 30th anniversary. It takes place at the Clayton Green, Chadderton Way, Oldham on Saturday 20 October, from 10am to 4pm.
"Lots of drivers say that they would like to take an advanced driving course but just never get round to it," said Nick Furnell, Chairman of the West Pennine Advanced Motorists.
"Now's their chance. We can enhance the driving skills of anybody who wants to have a go to the point where they could comfortably take an advanced driving test - it's possible to do it in just 15 hours, given the right approach."
“West Pennine Group are not a learner driving school. We are a charity organisation, who by teaching a structured approach to motoring, aim to enhance and educate experienced drivers, to a level that will allow them to pass The Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM) Advanced Driving Test. This is a life long qualification that, if followed, will help improve your safety as a driver and the safety of your passengers. In addition, many drivers can use this qualification to reduce their car insurance renewals.”
West Pennine Group of Advanced Motorists (WPG), are having a 30th Anniversary Open Day at our new venue, the Clayton Green, Oldham on Saturday 20th October 10am - 4pm.
WPG has been serving the Oldham and surrounding area since 1977. Over this time we have had over 1000 drivers pass the Advanced Test, plus many more that have benefited from our structured approach to motoring.
Firstly let us explain what we are not. West Pennine Group are not a learner driving school. We are a charity organisation, who by teaching a structured approach to motoring, aim to enhance and educate experienced drivers, to a level that will allow them to pass The Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM[[1]]) Advanced Driving Test. This is a life long qualification that, if followed, will help improve your safety as a driver and the safety of your passengers. In addition, many drivers can use this qualification to reduce their car insurance renewal.
We have recently moved into our new location, the Clayton Green, Oldham. A modern restaurant complex with ample parking and clear visibility and access from the dual carriage way. During the day we are hoping to attract not only the older driver (an unfortunate stereotype) - but also families by offering something interesting for the kids to do including colouring, face painting, quiz and a play area. The Institute of Advanced Motorists are providing a Mobile Display Unit and Oldham Road Safety Unit are also sponsoring the weekend by funding a £10 discount on the course fee, normally £85. We would like to openly invite families and individuals who may be interested in chatting face to face or just picking up some general road safety tips, to come down to see us on Saturday. We are hoping for local press coverage on the day (and the preceding week).
Help us celebrate our 30th Anniversary and the Opening of our new venue, on Saturday the 20th of October in partnership with Oldham Road Safety, Department of Transport Think Speed campaign, the Clayton Green Oldham and the Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM Ltd).
