WPBG is an FM radio station located in Peoria, Illinois. WPBG broadcasts on 93.3 MHz with an ERP of 41,000 watts and a HAAT of 548' feet. The station has a classic hits format and the station's slogan is "93.3 the Drive.". Morning programming is currently hosted by John Riley.
The station signed-on with the calls of WMBD-FM and was co-owned with WMBD AM 1470. WMBD-FM had a beautiful music format and utilized the slogan "Music Only For a Woman". The station was originally on 92.5 kHz but moved to 93.3 kHz in the early 1960s.
In the late 70's the station adopted a Top 40 format as WKZW. The station, calling itself "KZ-93" was successful immediately and rapidly overtook Top 40 AM WIRL in the ratings. KZ-93 DJs included Gary Olson, Keith Edwards, Scott Wheeler, Gene Stern, Derek Johnson, Lee Malcolm, Ken Cook (Hackney), Troy Hamilton, Jeff Kingsley, Glen Thomas, and Dan Baker. In the early 1990s the station flipped to a hard adult contemporary format as WMXP and the slogan "Mix 93.3". During the MIX years, The morning show was hosted by Dave Kallaway and Bec Ryan. Other jocks included Gene Stern, Scott Wheeler, Mary Lynn, Chris McIntyre, and Keith Kelly. In the late 1990s the station moved to an oldies format as "Big Oldies 93.3" and adopted the current call sign. The station also used the "Big FM" slogan before the current format of classic hits was adopted in late summer 2006.
The station is owned by Triad Broadcasting. Sister stations include WIRL, WMBD, WDQX, WXCL and WSWT.
