[edit] Portal parameter
According to the project banner, the portal parameter should refer to some sub-page entry of the queue. Why are we to write just "portal=yes" to it? Shouldn't we mention the relevant subpage as well? — Ambuj Saxena (talk) 16:52, 11 July 2006 (UTC)
- I was not sure how the portal pages were organized. So just linked it to general pages. Please provide an example and I can update the template accordingly. - Ganeshk (talk) 17:05, 11 July 2006 (UTC)
- Have a look at Selected content summary page that I created for the Selected articles on Portal:India. It links to the summary of all the articles under WP:PINSA. A convenient way to find when an article was last featured/will be featured is to see the last parameter in the bracket, which is the last date of featuring. In fact, this also provides a convenient way to find out all the days in which the given article came on the portal page: just click "what links here" from the summary page of any article. The trouble is almost all articles have been once featured, the exception being for those selected very recently or those for whom a working summary is absent. — Ambuj Saxena (talk) 17:19, 11 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Removing redundant templates
I have identified the following templates that have become redundant after the addition of WP India:
- WikiProject Indian cities
- WikiProject Indian states
- WikiProject Indian districts
- WikiProject Politics of India
- Wikiproject History of India
- Old India COTW
We can also deprecate the Indian portal related templates if we are able to integrate the infomation present in it with this template.
Is it okay to remove the above mentioned templates while adding the WP India template? — Ambuj Saxena (talk) 07:08, 12 July 2006 (UTC)
- I had done it here. I feel the same. Too many templates make the talk page cluttered. The new template mentions them anyway. - Ganeshk (talk) 16:15, 12 July 2006 (UTC)
- There might be a problem. For example, WikiProject Indian cities prescribes guidelines (MoS, etc.) for the article. Replacing the template would make the guidelines virtually inaccessible to new users. — Ambuj Saxena (talk) 16:29, 12 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Addition of other Wikiprojects in the templates
I have added a couple of other Wikiprojects in the template. They are "Wikiproject Indian cinema" and "Wikiproject History of India". I wanted to know whether we should add all India related Wikiprojects to the template. What about those that are closely related but not completely related (like Wikiproject Hinduism)? — Ambuj Saxena (talk) 06:01, 15 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Usage of portal parameter
Why does the portal paramater has to be used in conjuction with "class=FA" only. — Ambuj Saxena (talk) 06:01, 15 July 2006 (UTC)
- It does not have to to be used only with FA. It can be used by itself. Most FAs do get posted on the portal. So you see them all tagged. - Ganeshk (talk) 23:31, 22 September 2006 (UTC)
- I fixed the code so that it does not look for FA. Thanks for pointing that out. - Ganeshk (talk) 00:51, 23 September 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Reg: Assessment
(copied from User_talk:Ganeshk) Hi Ganesh,
Even as I was assessing the articles, I got into a dilemma. I thought it would be great to categorise the assessed articles by month (say, Categories: India Articles Quality Assessed in Oct 2006), so that we can go back to that category sometime later (may be three months) and reassess the article again.
I wanted to include a date stamp as well in the assessment section of the WP India Template, saying This article was rated -Class according to assessment criteria on so-and-so date.
I tinkered around with the WP India template to do both these tasks, i.e., categorising, and time-stamping. It should be small add-on only, yet, I wasn't sure about the naming conventions for the parameters expected in the Template, as well as how a change in the template will affect the current usage.
Could you help me fix them into the WP India template?? It would help very much in systematic assessment and re-assessment. Cheers -- Chez (Discuss / Email) • 22:50, 26 October 2006 (UTC)
- That's a nice idea. I have not seen any other projects do that. Let me work on it and come up with a prototype. I will post here. -- Ganeshk (talk) 23:22, 26 October 2006 (UTC)
Chez, I am ready with a prototype. Let me know if it's good. The template adds articles to the category, .
Usage:

Regards, Ganeshk (talk) 03:35, 27 October 2006 (UTC)
- It is really good. Please implement it yourself. Cheers -- Chez (Discuss / Email) • 05:52, 28 October 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Peer review
There is a slight error in the template. When the parameter "peer-review=yes" is added to the template the red link that it generates is of the form request has been made. The colon shouldn't be there. I think this line - A request has been made - in the template coding is to blame. Can someone fix it? - Aksi_great (talk) 20:04, 4 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Blank lines at top
This template produces blank lines above it. You can see this at the top of this page (removing the blank line between templates does not remove the space), and it is somewhat unappealing. Another editor referred to the "unsightly space" in Talk:History of saffron. This space can be removed by combining some lines early in the template. If the beginning of the template, currently

[edit] Replacing an image
Image:Crystal 128 kdmconfig.png is gonna be deleted soon from the Wikimedia Commons as a duplicate of Image:Crystal 128 kuser.png. I'd appreciate it if someone could replace the former with the latter in the template. Yonatan talk 13:28, 22 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Nesting fix
Replace the contents of this template with the sandboxed version at User:Disavian/Sandbox/WP India. The change is that most nested templates tell you the article class while they are nested; currently, this template does not. For a demonstration of the change, see User talk:Disavian/Sandbox/WP India. —Disavian (talk/contribs) 05:06, 22 April 2007 (UTC)
- I have implemented this change. Thanks for the suggestion. Regards, Ganeshk (talk) 05:37, 22 April 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Image:Tricolor.png
editprotected I've created Image:Tricolor.svg to replace Image:Tricolor.png. And seriously? a WikiProject Template totally disabled from editing by established users? Regardless, I notice that you folks seem to know how to fix the nesting problem that arises with the show/hide things. I'd like to do that with WikiProject Dallas-Fort Worth if anyone who knows how to do it has time... -- drumguy8800 C T 17:59, 3 May 2007 (UTC)
- I changed the images. The protection is more or less standard for templates that are included in a lot of pages, but you could make an argument at WP:RFPP if you would like it to be unprotected. You should ask at Wikipedia:Requested templates about fixing the nesting issue. CMummert · talk 18:22, 3 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] we need a "television" notice
Since WikiProject Indian television is the newest workgroup, we need a notice template like WikiProject Indian cinema has. - Bhavesh.Chauhan 19:00, 17 July 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Portal link
Please add India to the template, directly before the text "This article is within the scope..." Thanks, Cirt (talk) 15:08, 17 December 2007 (UTC).
- It's in the template code but commented out. Was it removed for a reason? Gimmetrow 15:38, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
- I don't know, but many other WikiProject templates give a link to the relevant associated portal in the WikiProject template. It helps to organize coordination between both the WikiProject and the Portal of the exact same topic.
- Here are some good examples of how this is used in conjunction with WikiProjects, and Portals, (both of which happen to be Wikipedia:Featured portals.) -- Wikipedia:WikiProject Religion, and Wikipedia:WikiProject Psychology. Cirt (talk) 16:02, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
Please place editprotected with your request rather than the top of the page. Since there seems to be a question of whether this should be included, I have Not done this for now. I have directed people at Portal talk:India and Wikipedia talk:WikiProject India to this section. —Random832 17:39, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
- I was going to add it (and in the right spot...), but then I saw it was already there, commented out. I just wanted to know why it was commented out, but I guess I'll have to dig through archives and diffs and figure that out myself. Gimmetrow 19:11, 17 December 2007 (UTC)

- Portal was originally added 28 September 2006 and then removed 13 October 2006. I can't find a clear indication why. Gimmetrow 19:17, 17 December 2007 (UTC)

- After all the subproject texts, there is
<!--India-->
- This should be replaced with:
{{#ifeq:{}|yes||India}}
- The portal link would otherwise clutter the small form. Gimmetrow 19:25, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
- After all the subproject texts, there is
- There are several India related portals apart from Portal:India (such as Portal:Kerala, Portal:West Bengal, Portal:Government of India, etc). As such, most of the India-related pages come under more than one portal. Hence we use certain portal specific tags (see Template:WP India#Usage) to link to these portals. See Talk:Kerala (click the [show] button) for an example of how this is implemented. This is probably the reason why a link to Portal:India is not given in the main body of the template.--thunderboltz(TALK) 14:57, 18 December 2007 (UTC)
- I had removed the portal link to save space on the box, was trying to hide as much as I can to make the box smaller. As Thunderboltz points out above, many portals (within India project scope) may apply for a particular topic. Displaying the root one alone is not helpful IMO. Other projects don't display them too. Would like to know your thoughts. Regards, Ganeshk (talk) 04:35, 19 December 2007 (UTC)

- I figured it probably had to do with the multiple subportals. OK with me. Gimmetrow 04:44, 19 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Assessments by date
Hi, this looks like the only project going around keep tracks of assessments by date. I really don't think that's particularly helpful as Category:India articles assessed by month is obviously missing a number of years. I would really suggest changing the template so that all the assessed article are in place, keeping the parameter and letting someone get a bot to figure it out fairly. -- Ricky81682 (talk) 04:02, 22 April 2008 (UTC)
- It's purpose was to allow for revisiting the articles at a later time to revise the assessment. It is done manually by adding the "assess-date" parameter. Not sure why you want the template to be changed, since a bot could be written to fill the gaps. Regards, Ganeshk (talk) 22:12, 23 April 2008 (UTC)
