Wounded (Third Eye Blind song)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
"Wounded" is the second song on American rock band Third Eye Blind's second album Blue. [1] The music and lyrics were written by lead singer Stephan Jenkins and former lead guitarist Kevin Cadogan.
The song's lyrics reflect the emotional trauma of sexual assault. The song's female protagonist is physically and emotionally, as the song suggests, wounded after the experience. The singer insists that the victim's life will return to normal and "and the bruises that you [she] feel[s] will heal"[2] and urges her to resume her life. The singer affirms to the victim that she is missed as the music intensity builds with the situation, culminating in the powerful chorus that "We miss your face and you know we wish you / Would come back down to the Dalva Bar / You tell them, that's just my battle scar".[3].
Stephan Jenkins was quoted as once saying "I think that Wounded is, so far, at least on those two albums [1997's Third Eye Blind, and 1999's Blue], is the best song we've ever done. I think it's like the most quintessential song on either of the albums".[4]
The song is additionally featured on Third Eye Blind's greatest hits album entitled A Collection, released July 18, 2006.
